Position Description
Job Summary
The primary responsibility of the Production Supervisor role is to provide supervision and coordination support to multiple areas of the plant. The Production Supervisor will supervise daily department needs through teams, tasks, or projects relating to manufacturing processes, direct operations to optimize throughput, and support manufacturing improvement initiatives including improvement teams to reduce costs.
Areas Responsible could include any of the following: Mixing, Forming, Firing, Finishing.
Essential Functions:
Supervision and Team Management: Supervisor for multiple areas of the plant. Ensures Safety is top priority for all employees. Manages and provides support for area Group Leaders. Will be required to support off-hour/weekend operations as required. Carries out activities directed toward production continuity and balance to include approving shift schedules, ensuring requisition of materials, and monitoring of machine loading and equipment maintenance.Operations: Coordinates production operations or processes across multiple work centers over several shift periods. Supports in attaining output, productivity, and quality. Monitors the performance of the business and proactively initiates and carries out actions to alleviate problem areas.Continuous Improvement: Identifies areas of opportunity and develops and initiates plans for longer-term improvements. Monitors and tracks area KPIs, helps use that information to assist in deploying cost saving initiatives and projects, and is actively involved in WCM structure of plant operations. This could include leading a pillar or at a minimum, being a pillar member.Project Manager: Provide leadership, technical expertise, and knowledge to meet area goals and objectives. Manage various projects within areas supervised as necessary (can include Continuous/Process Improvement, Automation/Digitalization, New Product/Process Design). Will require coordination with Furnace Engineer / Process Engineer to help facilitate and monitor Equipment and/or process upgrades.Personnel Development: Mentor and coach younger leaders with assistance from Plant Manager and HR. Set SMART objectives and follow up on performance with assistance.Other duties assigned
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Operations, Business - RequiredMaster's Degree in Engineering, Operations, Business- Preferred5-8 years progressive leadership and operational experience in manufacturing or related fieldKnowledge and experienced in managerial practices to develop high performing teamsKnowledge of ceramic processing or related technologiesProject Leadership experienceLean Manufacturing experience, World Class Manufacturing, Understanding of ISO9001 and ISO14001Strong troubleshooting and critical thinking skillsKnowledge of work areas supervised gained through experienceSkilled in organizing and coordinating diverse activitiesHigh level of human relation and interpersonal skillsSkills in organizing and coordinating diverse activities; Will manage production/maintenance projects and supervise production support functions as well. Can develop high performing teams.High level of human relation and interpersonal skills. Create and sustain key relationships quickly; communication and persuasion skills are necessaryMust possess very strong problem solving skills and the ability to solve problems in dynamic environments to ensure that all departments are secure.
