We are seeking a dynamic and innovative Product Portfolio Director to join our team to lead our Equity Investment Management Technology (IMT) product development and management efforts. IMT is embarking on an exciting phase whereby over the past decade Capital Group has made foundational investments in data and technology which places us in a position of strength. Capital Group is well poised to build on this foundation and deliver on this exciting next phase to leverage data and technology to enhance the Capital System.
As Product Portfolio Director you will have a broad remit that spans business, technical, procedural, design, and operational functions and plays a vital role in partnering with the IG Capabilities Team in defining business priorities and driving the execution of a holistic product road map, championing innovation, and ensuring successful delivery and change management that address our clients' most pressing needs. You will lead a team of highly experienced senior product leaders.
You will be responsible for representing the 'voice of the customer' and managing a group of Product Managers to help align the "what to build and why?" with several cross-functional teams at Capital Group including engineering, architecture, data, investment operations, and training to develop, deploy, and manage the product lifecycle to achieve business goals. As part of this role, you will leverage your background in both experimental agile development, large-scale product management and IT technical leadership to drive initiatives and ensure successful conclusions to cross-functional projects. This unique opportunity will enable you to make real positive impacts to our Product function, guide the strategic direction of our technical and operational teams, making customers happy over the long term through continual improvement, and help evolve our target operating model and processes in our next generation of systems and services.
Along with providing leadership of product teams, you will help shape and improve the organization's strategic goals and objectives in agile software development, recruiting, resourcing, financial planning/budgeting, and structure. This is an excellent opportunity to use your deep product and technology operations knowledge and expertise to help define and implement robust transformation/innovation strategies, frameworks, and governance processes.
Responsibilities:
Manage the portfolio of product features and backlog to balance the right tradeoffs between differentiation, enablement, foundational capabilities, and tech debt.Oversee research on customers and develop metrics/OKRs and supporting data for qualitative and quantitative feedback on efficacy of features for continuous improvement.Oversee the end-to-end product development lifecycle of the Equity product portfolio from design, launch, go to market plan, to end user support.Lead cross-product design to mature the organization and maximize its impact across product teams, ensuring quality products and unique customer experiences.Collaborate cross-functionally with stakeholders and leaders to ensure effective communication, coordination, and alignment across all constituents and organizational boundaries.Identify opportunities and develop cross-capability tools and frameworks to expand capabilities and tools beyond the Equity business area. This entails working directly with the Capital Group CIO to help advance product management craft, companywide.Lead, manage, recruit, and develop geographically distributed product teams. Mentor and teach junior PMs, TPMs, QA and analysts to build a high-performing team focused on collaboration, accountability, and agility.Foster a culture of experimentation and innovation to explore new ideas, techniques, and methodology.Build community in Product to share ideation, training, and best practices. This includes leadership of a Product Guild consisting of product managers across the enterprise.Apply and deploy multiple approaches to remove organizational impediments (e.g., cultural barriers, logistic challenges, mindset shifts, etc.).Navigate successfully through ambiguous situations, helping others remain focused on achieving results.Participate in annual business and budget planning.

You have previous experience and proven success as a product portfolio manager, senior product manager or similar leadership role.You are a strong strategic thinker, innovative problem solver, and ability to think beyond status quo.You have prior experience leading complex product portfolio programs.You have prior experience leading teams over multiple locations.You have proven experience coaching product managers of varying levels.You have broad experience in design thinking, experience design, customer centric design methodologies and best practices.You have demonstrated an ability to influence and communicate complex information in a simplified way.You have the ability to establish yourself as a leader, to not only perform in a leadership role, but to also be recognized by other divisions and business partners as a leader.You have a strong presence and credibility with excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills which are effective and impactful to a range of audiences.You have the ability to see the big picture with high attention to critical details.
Southern California Base Salary Range: $233,194-$396,430
In addition to a highly competitive base salary, per plan guidelines, restrictions and vesting requirements, you also will be eligible for an individual annual performance bonus, plus Capital's annual profitability bonus plus a retirement plan where Capital contributes 15% of your eligible earnings.
