Product Management Group Director
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the VP, Product & Portfolio Strategy Operations, and part of the larger Pharmaceutical Development and Manufacturing (PDM) organization, the Product Management Group Director will build and lead a team of product management professionals to work in tandem with PDM Product Strategy Team Leads to support our portfolio of development & commercial products.
FOCUS AREAS
Lead team of dedicated Product Managers to support our PDM Product Strategy Leads and Product Teams. This includes identifying and sharing best practices across the Product Strategy Teams
Design, iterate on, and maintain a set of templated tools and processes for the team system, e.g. tools for communicating risks
Work in partnership with the PDM Product Strategy Leads to develop, gain approval for, and execute on the product strategy for our products, including key milestones, budgeting and resource allocation
Support PDM Portfolio Operations’ development of portfolio view of product team-driven resource remands by implementing processes for Product Managers to collect resource allocations on a per product basis
Support PDM Portfolio Operations’ and PDM Finance’s collection of product budget information by implementing processes for Product Managers to collect budget info on a per product basis
Ensure project work complies with established practices, policies and processes. Identify and share best practices with the other Product Management Team Leads
Evaluate and optimize the PDM product / project management support model with consideration of current dedicated teams and current project management resources that are distributed across PDM.
Direct highly complex product communications and ensures that all product ‘customers’ are fully informed and knowledgeable of product activities and their status
Identify and manage critical path activities and resources for Product Teams, in partnership with the PDM Product Strategy Lead
Organize preparation of high-quality documents for review by governance committee in collaboration with the Product Team
Identify complex project issues which pose a challenge to achieving strategic goals for the Product Teams and then propose and implement plans to resolve such issues and execute corrective actions, with the PDM Product Strategy Lead
Working with PDM Product Strategy Lead, liaise with appropriate PDM subject matter experts to ensure accuracy and speed of PDM due diligence assessments so that the impact on the PDM network is planned and predictable
Working with PDM Product Strategy Lead and PDM Portfolio Operations, interface with PDM Finance to ensure that financial assumptions for due diligences and product decisions are reasonable and accurate
Support the flow of accurate data into PDM milestone planning and resource-allocation tools
Lead, coach and develop Product Managers at various career levels
QUALIFICATIONS:
A Bachelors degree in life sciences or a relevant business area with 12+ years of relevant industry experience OR a Masters degree in life sciences or a relevant business area with 10+ years of relevant experience is required.
Working knowledge / experience with CMC is REQUIRED
Proven track record of successfully managing large scale, global and complex transformational product-related projects and programs
Demonstrated ability to partner with product / project leaders to set vision and strategy for cross-functional teams
Demonstrated capability to navigate and lead in a highly networked environment and experienced with the required elevated level of influencing skills.
Expertise in developing and managing project scope, deliverables, risks and resource requirements
Excellent analytical skills with an ability to summarize and present complex information in a clear and concise manner
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with all levels within the organization
Must be able to understand and communicate scientific and business elements associated with pharmaceutical / biotech products
Solid understanding of current industry trends
Leadership qualities of the successful candidate include the following: collaboration, building and developing high performing teams, accountability, cross-functional engagement and influence, program management, strategic vision, executive presence, coaching, goal setting and performance management. Demonstrated ability to lead without authority, influence and motivate teams

The salary range for this position is: $221,170.00 - $286,220.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
