To be the source of information and to coordinate the Competitive Intelligence efforts of all life insurance product-based initiatives including product definition, competitive positioning, premiums, values, benefits, compensation, and product features for the fixed, variable universal life, indexed, whole life and term products. Must know and understand how all of these items work together to define competitive products for distribution, marketing, actuarial and implementation teams. This effort involves working closely with senior management, product development, marketing, sales, and distribution to optimize the information-gathering and analytical capacity of the company as a whole. It also involves outside resources and intelligence gathering from competitor companies, using ethical and legal techniques to comply with Anti-Trust and Protective Code of Conduct, to ensure accurate and profitable product positioning.
The Product Management Associate II should understand life insurance products; have excellent analytical and communication skills, and strong attention to detail. They should be comfortable conducting deep analysis of life insurance products, including review of product filings, prospectuses, and illustrations. They should also be able to multi-task and handle multiple projects at one time. They need to demonstrate an ability to think strategically about industry trends and competitor actions and articulate their implications for Protective Life. They must be able to manage time effectively to meet routine deadlines and react quickly to competitor moves that impact our business.
Primary Job Functions:
Product and Research - Conducts primary and secondary research, analysis, and reporting of the individual life marketplace
•Serves as internal consultant for the Life Manufacturer with a general understanding of the individual life insurance marketplace and sales trends.
•Regularly monitors, analyzes and interprets marketing and competitive information in regards to trends within the individual life marketplace. Utilizes research tools such as Google Alerts, External Media, BGA Websites as well as industry specific tools such as Competiscan, LifeTrends, LifeSpecs, CompuLife and various other resources to monitor and communicate product trends and competitive results.
•Develops regular communication to summarize competitive pricing information, industry and carrier trends or changes, product benchmarking, and the relevancy to Protective Life. This includes sending out notifications for competitor changes and Monthly Competitive Reports for each of our distribution channels
•Package and disseminate insights on competitor strategy including product development, target markets, marketing, and sales support.
•Develop and distribute relevant competitive information to key internal partners including actuarial, distribution, marketing and senior management.
•Gather appropriate information, including marketing and benchmarking data, and provide it to the Marketing team in order to help develop promotional and training material that favorably positions Protective’s products against competitors.
•Maintain regular benchmarking metrics for actuarial and distribution to ensure information is always up-to-date and relevant to industry trends.
•Contribute and evaluate ideas based on research and trend analysis for marketing/sales literature, illustrations and presentations for Life Product and Market Research to favorably position Protective’s life product portfolio.
•Fulfills on-demand research requests from internal partners: Actuarial, Marketing, Distribution, Underwriting and Senior Management.
•Gather information on competitor products through online research (filings), obtaining marketing samples, pulling policy forms, and working with industry partners.
•Publishes weekly editorial newsletter distributed among Protective employees to report findings, reprice analysis and upcoming changes within the industry.
•Supports internal research efforts in the role of Protective Life industry with peer companies to ensure effective research. This includes working with internal partners to gather relevant information to answer all survey questions, gathering additional information from our competitors, and conduct research surveys as needed.
Market Analysis and Reporting - Gather, Analyze, Summarize and report out all sales data for individual life
•Gather, analyze, monitor, and archive all regular sales reporting data (including LIMRA and other industry data)
•Maintain Protective’s internal competitive database, to ensure data integrity, and continue to monitor technology enhancement opportunities
•Regularly calculate and internally distribute all relevant sales information, analyze results, discuss information with competitors, and develop summary reports to help Leadership understand our position within the individual life marketplace.
•Create “product write-ups” and side-by-side comparisons of products/features for competitive sales analysis, intranet site and training. This includes features, pricing, illustrated values, strengths and weaknesses.
•Monitor and analyze the individual life marketplace to determine changes in competitive position and maintain working in-depth understanding of competitor products.
•Perform ad-hoc sales and competitive reports as requested by Leadership, Distribution or other parties
•Assist in the development of sales information for presentations
•Serve as primary contact to third-party entities with regards to product surveys
•Performs related activities as directed, and manages personal self-development to prepare for new responsibilities and challenges in a changing environment.

Protective’s targeted salary range for this position is $59,500 to $87,000. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors, including but not limited to, job location, skills, and experience. The range listed is just one component of Protective’s total compensation package for employees.
This position also offers additional incentive opportunities [through an annual incentive based on individual and Company performance] OR [through cash compensation as part of a sales incentive plan (SIP).
