About Principal Software Engineer

  Job Description

At Multicloud Services organization, our mission is to support customer choice, transparency, and value when it comes to cloud infrastructure. We make it easy for our customers to maximize the value of their Oracle investment as well as other clouds or on-premise infrastructure and build highly distributed, scalable, and resilient Multicloud solutions to support their business.

We are looking for hands-on engineers with expertise and passion in solving difficult problems in all areas of cloud service software engineering: high scale distributed systems, virtualized infrastructure, identity, security, observability, and user experience.

This is a greenfield opportunity to design and build new cloud services from the ground up. We are growing fast, still at an early stage, and working on ambitious new initiatives. An engineer at any level can have significant technical and business impact here. You will be part of a team of smart, motivated, diverse people, and given the autonomy as well as support to do your best work. It is a dynamic and flexible workplace where you’ll belong and be encouraged.

  Who are we looking for?

We are looking for engineers with experience in building control plane components for public cloud services.

You have experience with the design of major features and launching them into production. You’ve built and operated high-scale public cloud services and have deep understanding of control plane architecture. You work on most projects and tasks independently and extend technical leadership to development teams.

In this role, you will enable development teams by driving design of major service components, working with engineering managers and TPMs, and providing direct guidance to more junior team members. You can go from high level system design, writing architectural documentation and driving engineering peer reviews to hands-on prototyping, code reviews and project bootstrapping.

You are technically strong and get a lot done. You can balance speed and quality with iteration and incremental improvements. You’ve made life easier for other developers and have motivated your teams to make both process and service improvements with your ability to automate and instrument your service. You understand operational excellence and how to instill a culture of high quality and customer focus.

  Qualifications:

5 to 10 years distributed service engineering experience in a software development environment

Development experience in a modern programming language, such as Java, C++, C#

Hands-on experience designing, developing, and operating public cloud service control planes

Deep understanding of object-oriented design and SDK development, specifically within a cloud environment

Experience working closely with architects, principals, product and program managers to deliver product features on time and with high quality.

Good knowledge of data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and distributed systems fundamentals.

Working familiarity with networking protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP) and standard network architectures.

Good understanding of databases, NoSQL systems, storage, and distributed persistence technologies.

Good understanding of Linux or desire to learn

Demonstrable technical leadership and mentorship skills

  Preferred Qualifications:

BS degree in Computer Science or related field (MS preferred)

Hands-on experience developing services on a public cloud platform (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP)

Experience driving security reviews, documentation, UX reviews, and working with Product Managers from inception through launch

Experience and understanding of multi-AD/AZ and regional data centers

Building continuous integration/deployment pipelines with robust testing and deployment schedules

FedRAMP, PCI DSS, or similar compliance and auditing experience

Expertise in applying threat modeling or other risk identification techniques to develop security solutions

  Responsibilities

  Job Responsibilities:

As a Principal Member of Technical Staff, you will build entire services and act as a leader on your team. You will be writing exceptional code and tests, mentor others on your team and establish high quality standards, drive design and architecture of your service, and play a key role in planning, execution and operational readiness. As an engineering leader, we expect you to raise the bar for the entire engineering organization – whether through best engineering practices, operational excellence, development process or shared code contributions.

  Key Responsibilities:

  • Own the engineering delivery of a service or product.

  • Work closely with architects, product and program managers to deliver product features on time and with high quality.

  • Drive engineering efforts and provide direction other members of the team.
