  Job Summary

  Equinix is the world's digital infrastructure company. Much of the internet that you know flows through our rapid interconnected network and data centers. Equinix Internet Exchange is the world's largest Internet Exchange while Equinix Fabric has the largest market share in Software Defined Interconnection. Our team is building Equinix's next generation networking and Multi Cloud Networking platforms which will enable all Equinix's Digital Interconnection services.

  We're looking for a Principal SRE who will be responsible for building easy to operate, reliable and high preforming applications and networking software for our next generation networking platform.

  As a Principal SRE, you will drive strategy for building highly scalable and reliable systems. You will be a stakeholder in software and network design and engineering, providing technical leadership in all aspects of running services across critical and pivotal initiatives. You will focus on scaling, modernizing, and automating Equinix's Multi Cloud Networking service and next generation networking architectures. You will have the flexibility to work on different projects to utilize new technologies as we continue to explore new areas and drive innovation across the infrastructure space. This makes you a key contributor in building and maintaining the components that drive our customers' experience.

  Responsibilities

  Design and manage networking software services in a highly concurrent, scalable, distributed transactional systemsProvide leadership in designing and improving incident management processes, defining oncall schedules and responsibilities, leading the team in troubleshooting strategies and fixing production issues in quick turnaround timeCreate software systems or lead the team in using systems such as CICD pipelines to help deliver code from commit to deployment in minutesDevelop an observability strategy for the servicesWork with the team for constant improvement of system performance and scale using system profiling tools and stress testing techniquesProvide thought leadership and significant technical contributions to help develop target Multi Cloud Networking architectures and software and recommendations for the evolution of the technology stackDrive cross-stakeholder alignment on network requirements and design trade-offsHelp identify technical debt and drive continual improvement by partnering with associate organizationsContribute to next-generation networking proof-of-concept projects in close collaboration with partners (e.g., Office of the CTO) to deliver tangible outcomes that guide new technology investments and implementation decisions to evolve the network technology stackServe as an orchestrator of thinking internally and externally, including in interactions with customers, partners, industry forums, and open source/developer communitiesMentor technical leaders in the teamMaintain relationships with senior leadership and collaborate with a broad range of stakeholdersEstablish key performance metricsDrive a culture of innovation, excellence & collaboration with other business functionsProvide strategic direction in planning/execution

  Qualifications

  10+ years' experience in software engineering, preferably as a SRE or DevOps engineerMaster's degree in computer science or relevant engineering field or equivalent industry experienceExperience in building software defined multi-tenant networking platform at scale using cloud-native networking technologies and ecosystemsDemonstrable and extensive experience in developing software systems and/or networking technologies and architectures implemented in large-scale, critically important deploymentsExperience with open source and networking technologies, ecosystems, communities and industry forums such the Linux FoundationGood understanding of application development stackSubstantive track record with Golang programming languageGood understanding of networking technologiesExperience in leading and mentoring a team of developers to ensure timely delivery of high-quality softwareExcellent writing and verbal communications skills from engineering to executive

  The targeted pay range for this position in the following location is / locations are:• San Francisco, CA / Bay Area: $179,000 to $304,000 per year• California (Non-SF/Bay Area), Connecticut, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Washington state: $172,000 to $293,000 per year• Colorado, Nevada, Rhode Island: $159,000 to $271,000 per yearOur pay ranges reflect the minimum and maximum target for new hire pay for the full-time position determined by role, level, and location. Individual pay is based on additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and/or training.This position may be offered in other locations. Your recruiter can share more about the specific pay range for your preferred location during the hiring process.The targeted pay range listed reflects the base pay only and does not include bonus, equity, or benefits. Employees are eligible for bonus, and equity may be offered depending on the position.As an employee, you become important to Equinix's success.
