Collins Aerospace's Integrated Strategic Solutions Engineering (ISSE) team is looking for an exceptionally motivated Engineer that is passionate about collaborating with high-performance teams to create mission critical solutions.As a Principal Project Engineer focused on subcontract technical management, you will play a vital role in ensuring successful relationships with suppliers and internal product development teams. You will be the primary technical point of contact for subcontracts, responsible for managing technical aspects, ensuring compatibility, and maintaining integrity between interfacing components and systems.The expectation is that you will have core technical expertise in hardened computing with the ability to address 80%-90% of the technical issues raised by subcontractors before scheduling supplemental assistance from a resident Subject Matter Expert (SME). This is a non-managerial position that requires strong technical expertise, relationship management skills, and the ability to collaborate with various stakeholders within a matrixed Subcontract Management Team (SMT) to meet subcontract performance objectives.This is an onsite position in Richardson, TX. This position may be eligible for relocation.What you will do:
Operate in an integrated digital environment supporting the definition, derivation, and allocation of system requirements; development of compliant system and subsystem architectures; integration and deployment to system integration labs and customer platforms; and verification and validation of the solution with the US DoD customer and certifying agencies.Communicate and collaborate with other Project Engineers to coordinate project tasking and resources; domain-area IPT leads to develop detailed execution plans.Serve as the technical point of contact (POC) for Subcontracts, working in conjunction with Value Stream Leadership and Engineering, to interface between subcontractors and the organization, ensuring effective communication and understanding of technical requirements and contract scope.Foster strong relationships with subcontractors' technical POCs and internal design and development stakeholders, promoting collaboration and resolving technical issues efficiently.Manage subcontract scope both internally and externally, aligning partners with program objectives and ensuring adherence to technical specifications.Assist in evaluating potential subcontractors through technical assessments and aiding in the qualification process.Monitor internal program evolution and external product or system development to ensure compatibility and interface integrity throughout the project lifecycle.Serve as the technical POC for trade studies related to performance and/or efficiency enhancements and coordinate technical modification requests between the organization and subcontractors.Exhibit advanced interpersonal and relationship management skills, promoting effective collaboration with various teams, including suppliers and internal stakeholders.Participate in the sourcing process, from industry surveys, Requests for Information (RFIs), Requests for Proposal (RFPs), and technical evaluations to contract signature, actively contributing to the development of supplier Statements of Work (SOW) and Technical Specification documents.Manage the technical relationship with one or multiple strategic accounts, ensuring vendors and suppliers meet the designed requirements, and providing direct support to the management of those accounts to Subcontracts, Engineering, Value Stream Leadership, Quality, Business Development, Finance, Operations, and other internal stakeholders.Collaborate in the development and maintenance of system and subsystem vision, strategy, and goals to align with other programs and customers within a program portfolio.What you will learn:
You will learn about commercial and military aircraft systems; large platform systems integration of RF communications, networking, and computing; formal ground and flight test, certification, and customer sell-off events; and lifecycle support and sustainment.You will gain valuable experience in project leadership including cost accounting, schedule management, and sales forecasting.You will learn and lead technology development guiding products from early maturity, low Technology Readiness Level (TRL) to full flight qualification and flight proven capability.Education & Qualifications:
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experienceAbility to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance up to and including a TS/SCI.U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearanceAbility to work on-site, full time in a classified environment.Ability to travel up to 25% of the year including (although atypical) on or over weekends.Skills you must have:
Prior professional experience managing technical subcontractors including development of complex statements of work, writing RFPs, guiding design and development, overseeing all phases of assembly and test, and conducting final product delivery and acceptance.Specific relevant expertise in areas of hardened computing and integration into complex platforms.Proven exceptional strategic communication skills -written, verbal, and presentation- to effectively communicate business cases to all levels of peers, suppliers, and program and executive management, with an ability to persuade and motivate action.Ability to manage multiple relationships and tasks concurrently while meeting deadlines.Demonstrated problem-solving skills and the ability to address technical challenges effectively.Knowledgeable in Earned Value Management (EVM); able to interpret EV data and metrics to draw conclusions about program performance and drive corrective actions.Skills we value:
Active U.S. DoD security clearance.NC3 domain knowledge, particularly in concepts of operations and requirements.Experience in industry survey and supplier qualification processes.
