Role summary
As Principal Information Architect, reporting into Splunk’s Senior Director, Information Experience, you help drive the use of taxonomies, terminologies, ontology, and metadata to improve customer adoption of product and use of technical content. You are a customer evangelist who understands how to use taxonomy, terminology and information organizational expertise to improve customer understanding of products in the product and product content. You are technical, an adept listener, with a passion for technology, content, and customers. You seek beauty in the portrayal of content, and create value through clarity and organization. You have experience from concept definition, to terminology and metadata, and to the realities of making it easy to find content and working across organizational boundaries to steward related improvements.
You will be a great addition to the Splunk Product Experience organization if you:
Believe that product information experiences cannot exist without a deep understanding of our customers and users.
You lean into innovating to resolve information recall and structure problems by working cross-functionally on all aspects of content taxonomies and mapping of core taxonomies, including keyword research, analytics, terminology-portfolio maintenance, application in product navigation and UI, application to content strategy, site search optimization, and implementation of technical SEO tactics.
Drive improvement to information experience by being an expert and steward with content specialists and website owners across Splunk, focusing on taxonomy, metadata, semantics, search, and navigational structure strategy to drive uniform standards, governance and experiences.
Have experience driving collaboration and customer experience work sessions as needed to facilitate alignment across groups, to inspire customer empathy and terminology/taxonomy alignment that improves the customer search journey.
Have experience with tracking information organizational, taxonomy, and terminology investments to measure and report on their success and influencing leadership through data-driven insights that impact cross-company initiatives.

What you’ll bring
8-10+ years of experience with successful information architecture, taxonomies, ontologies, and UI information design, with some of that in relevant experience in Enterprise and SaaS taxonomies.
Proven success in structured terminology, taxonomy and ontology implementation across organizational boundaries.
Deep understanding of processes, semantic systems and taxonomy mapping.
Passion for driving ease-of-use in product and content through information organizational practices.
Strong understanding of taxonomies in technical documentation to drive metadata, navigation and search.
Successful experience guiding writing teams through adoption of taxonomies for content.
Knowledge of industry trends and best practices in information architecture.

Base Pay Range
SF Bay Area, Seattle Metro, and New York City Metro Area
Base Pay Range: $171,200.00 - 235,400.00 per year
California (excludes SF Bay Area), Washington (excludes Seattle Metro), Washington DC Metro, and Massachusetts
Base Pay Range: $156,000.00 - 214,500.00 per year
All other cities and states excluding California, Washington, Massachusetts, New York City Metro Area and Washington DC Metro Area.
Base Pay Range: $143,200.00 - 196,900.00 per year
Splunk provides flexibility and choice in the working arrangement for most roles, including remote and/or in-office roles. We have a market-based pay structure which varies by location. Please note that the base pay range is a guideline and for candidates who receive an offer, the base pay will vary based on factors such as work location as set out above, as well as the knowledge, skills and experience of the candidate. In addition to base pay, this role is eligible for incentive compensation and may be eligible for equity or long-term cash awards.
