About Principal Engineer, Maintenance, Qualification, and Deploy

  Minimum qualifications:

  15 years of experience in software development.

  Experience building software and distributed systems.

  Experience with technical innovation

  Preferred qualifications:

  Master's degree.

  Ability to work cross-functionally, partnering with groups (e.g., Sales, Engineering, Product Management, Product Marketing, UX, and UI), and brokering trade offs with stakeholders and understanding their needs.

  Strong understanding of private and public cloud design considerations and limitations in the areas of virtualization, global infrastructure, distributed systems, load balancing, networking, massive data storage, and security.

  Solid foundation in SW design, data structures and algorithms, and strong analytical and debugging skills with customer-facing products experience.

  As the Maintenance, Qualification, and Deploy Principal Engineer within the Google Cloud Compute Engine (GCE) organization, you will be responsible for ensuring Google Compute Engine (i.e., virtual machine, kernel, guest OS, microcode, and embedded) software releases are trustworthy, transparent, scalable, and controlled. You will have an understanding of software release processes, qualification methodologies, and customer needs. You will also utilize leadership and communication skills to influence decisions and strategy across the Google Cloud Compute organization and partner teams.

  The US base salary range for this full-time position is $271,000-$399,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

  Define the working space and lead the overall strategy for GCE release validation for the node software in partnership with experts across the organization.

  Define a multi-tier product surface testing strategy from low-level functional testing through high-level workload testing, partnering with site reliability, qualification, and performance teams on the workload strategy.

  Develop design principles, set a uniform process for reviewing designs within software teams, and define standards for writing, sharing, and reviewing design documents.

  Represent the needs of Google customers and their workloads in the context of GCE software maintenance.

  Work with experts to enhance our disruption measurements and monitoring strategy to better represent our customer experience. Challenge existing methods and help us explore other paths which might unlock less disruptive ways to update our kernel and machine software.
