Job Summary
The Principal Engineer in Projects organization is a reference positionwith responsibilities over the engineers of the Units, coordination withPT on standards, interlocution with Planning and skilled support on theproject development till it is closed out.
Position reports to the Substation or Lines or Integrated Director, butthe position will work day-to-day in cross functional project team andsupport project needs as dictated by the Managers and Director.
Responsibilities
? Project engineering performance and overseeing including all phasessuch as: scoping and budgeting, conceptual engineering, contractmanagement and design, engineering design, construction and closeout.
? Perform standard and complex engineering analyses, designs andcalculations.
? Responsible for leading and creating new conceptual designs based onAvangrid Standards and overseeing the work of external detailed designerensuring consistency among all the operating companies.
? Ensure all engineering designs implemented by the company meetapplicable company, local, state, and national codes and standards.
? Utilize knowledge to influence and guide department engineers.
? Provide technical leadership in most complex projects that have a wideimpact on the business.
? Mentor, develop and support team in technical skills.
? SME for team.
? Liaison/ direct contractors on company policy, standards and bestpractices.
? Work independently with little supervision.
Skills and Requirements
Technical Skills/Competencies:
Theoretical Engineering knowledge - Planning, Operations and EngineeringDesign, Analytic, modeling Calculation, understanding the businessmodel; Global View of the Business (Values cross-functionalcollaboration, understands importance of growing knowledge anddeveloping relationships and links across the organization)
Practical engineering experience/application - Planning, Operations andEngineering Design, Construction, (e.g. field experience,standardization "Perform economic analyses of engineering alternatives,develop business cases and defend in front of stakeholders.")
Engineering documentation - Ability to adequately document and interpretengineering documentation
Ability to review and approve engineering work done by others to ensurecompliance with company standards, specifications, and contractrequirements
Knowledge of Regulatory and Compliance Environment - Local, State andFederal Regulatory Standards and requirements
(For Smart Grids) Networking, Computer Security, and Databases -Understanding Networking, security, computer hardware, softwareapplications, database structure, and data communication equipment.
Functional/job/business specific Competencies
Deep knowledge of the regulatory environment including relevant outputand incentive mechanisms.
Deep knowledge company, local, state, and national codes and standards.
Substations and Integrated:
Deep knowledge in Substations design and construction for utilityenvironments or large corporations.
Transmission Lines and Integrated:
Deep knowledge in Distribution and Transmission Lines design andconstruction for utility environments or large corporations.
Education Experience Required
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering required
Master's Degree required +10 years minimum relevant experience InternalUse Preferred Qualifications: (Optional)
