GEICO is seeking an experienced Engineer with a passion for building high-performance, low-latency platforms, and applications. You will help drive our insurance business transformation as we redefine experience for our customers.
Position Description
Our Principal Engineer is a lead member of the engineering staff working across Business Services Engineering, Data Engineering, Platform Engineering, and Infrastructure Engineering to ensure that we provide a fiction-less experience to our customers, maintain the highest standards of protection and availability. Our team thrives and succeeds in delivering high-quality technology products and services in a hyper-growth environment where priorities shift quickly. The ideal candidate has the broad and deep technical knowledge, typically ranging from front-end UIs through back-end systems and all points in between.
Position Responsibilities
As a Principal Engineer, you will:
• Focus on a few key areas and provide leadership to the engineering teams.
• Own complete solution across its entire life cycle.
• Influence and build vision with product managers, team members, customers, and other engineering teams to solve complex problems for building enterprise-class business applications.
• Accountable for the quality, usability & performance of the solutions.
• Lead in design sessions and code reviews to elevate the quality of engineering across the organization.
• Utilize programming languages like .NET, Python, SQL, and NoSQL databases, Container Orchestration services including Docker and Kubernetes, and a variety of Azure tools and services.
• Mentor more junior team members professionally to help them realize their full potential.
• Consistently share best practices and improve processes within and across teams.
Qualifications
• Fluency and Specialization with at least two modern languages such as Java, C++, Python or C# including object-oriented design.
• Experience in building products micro-services oriented architecture and extensible REST APIs.
• Experience building the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and current systems.
• Practical knowledge of working in Agile environment (Scrum/Kanban/SAFe).
• Experience with continuous delivery and infrastructure as code.
• Fluency in DevOps Concepts, GEICO's Cloud Architecture, and Azure DevOps Operational Framework
• Experience in leveraging Powershell scripting
• Experience in existing Monitoring Portals: Splunk or Application Insights
• Experience in DataCenter Structure, Capabilities & Offerings, including the Azure platform, and its native services.
• Ability to excel in a fast-paced, startup-like environment.
• Knowledge of developer tooling across the software development life cycle (task management, source code, building, deployment, operations, real-time communication).
• Experience in designing Kubernetes topologies that include networking, ingress controllers, networking, pod scaling, taints and tolerations, orchestration, and namespace management for RBAC
• Experience in defining Kubernetes architectural requirements and implementation designs from those requirements
• Develop solutions for hardening infrastructure and AKS applications
• Collaborate with Service Owners to align DevSecOps strategies and translate these into actionable initiatives for inclusion in forward looking roadmaps.
• Standardize and enforce CI/CD best practices for AKS pipelines, build/release retention policies, audit trails, logging, metrics and traceability to establish and implement KPI release gates.
• Experience with CI/CD best practices for automated unit, smoke and integration testing.
• Good understanding of the public cloud services AKS and cloud native management services and tools for Azure. Hands on experience with different automation tools, source control and pipelines Identify opportunities to integrate continual security and compliance testing into the delivery lifecycle
Experience
• 6+ years of professional software development experience
• 3+ years of experience with architecture and design
• 3+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service
• 3+ years of experience with kubernetes
• 4+ years of experience in open source frameworks
• 1+ years of people management experience
Education
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience

Annual Salary
$100,000.00 - $236,500.00
The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate's work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
