As a Principal Engineer I on the THIS team you will be responsible for engineering activities that maintain and enhance the company's telecommunications and signal processing hardware, software and electrical systems. Works with technical operations staff on system design and configuration. Works with design teams and advises team leaders.
WHAT OUR PRINCIPAL ENGINEERS ENJOY MOST
Design and develop software components for Adaptive Bit Rate video streaming technologies as proof of concept or reference implementation to support new product or business ask. For example.. Solution for supporting Key Rotation for DRM platform, Client side Ad insertion, Client side blackouts, Thumbnail scrubbing for on-demand stream, smooth Ad transition in HLS and DASH video streams. Development of software components involves development of client or server side software modules in C/C++, Javascript, Brightscript, Swift, Python, Java.Evaluate IP video workflow from user authentication to video content playout to determine potential vulnerability that could be exploited and propose mitigation options to improve security around video delivery by working with cross functional teams and through proof-of-concept experiments.Conduct system/workflow analysis, architect, design, develop and support integration and qualification of new IP video features/services/vendors for Spectrum TV App.Author patents to safeguard Charter Communication's Intellectual Property.Troubleshoot production video playback issues that arise by reproducing the issue in the lab and carefully evaluating the video playback process within the video player on the client device to determine root cause of playback issue (i.e. video and audio was out of synchronization).Develop tools for team member to use for different testing (i.e. a tool was created for the team to test failover scenario and another tool was created to re-create a production-like linear/live TV stream for testing).

Required Qualifications
Experience:Engineering work experience - 5+ yearsProject management work experience - 5+ yearsEducation: Masters or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field or related work experienceTechnical skills:Basic knowledge of related industry specifications and standards IEEE, ANSI, Fiber (Multimode, Single mode, UTP, etc.), Bridging, Switching, Routing, Ethernet and Transport technologies and protocols Basic knowledge in network design, network architecture, protocols and network topology Basic knowledge in TCP/IP and the OSI Model Basic knowledge in using ticketing and software tools to support the current operations. Basic knowledge of network devices and basic network appliances Basic knowledge of network designing software, such as Visio Skills:Knowledgable in video encoding, transcoding and processingUnderstanding of various video and audio codecs such as AVC, HEVC, AAC, E-AC3 with emphasis on video/audio qualityUnderstand the different IP video streaming formats (DASH/HLS/HSS)Familiar with industry standards (i.e. DASH-IF, SCTE, etc.)Working knowledge of just-in-time packagers from various vendorsStrong understanding of IP video workflow from content ingest to delivery onto customer's client devicePlayerExperience working with Media Source Extensions, Encrypted Media Extensions, MediaCapabilitiesExperience working with web players like hls.js, Shaka Player, dash.js etc...Working familiarity with C++, Javascript, Brightscript, Swift, Python, Java.Working knowledge on Apple and Android native players EXO and AVPlayer is a bonus.Work independently to build test setup, evaluate new products/technology and create technology evaluation report to highlight pros and cons of the product/technology Highly self-motivated to learn new technology as it applies to the jobMethodical troubleshooting skills Good verbal and written communication skills to discuss, share and present technical information across different teamsAbilities:Ability to read, write and speak the English languageAbility to use personal computer and software applicationsAbility to perform duties in a very fast pace environment and ability to learn new technology quicklyAbility to collaborate and work with cross functional teams under pressureAbility to work on multiple projects effectively and efficientlyTravel Ability: Office environmentSchedule:Full timeThis position is eligible to work in a hybrid work model (combination of in-office and remote days

The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience and location.
