TITLE: Principal Engineer ILOCATION: Englewood, Colorado
JOB SUMMARY:Perform Application Programming Interface (API) compatibility checks with every Element Management System software release so they do not break any front-end applications. Build health monitoring/network intelligence dashboards using APIs to provide more insights into the network by integrating them with analytical tools and platforms including Apache, Kafka, Zookeeper, and databases. Program various lab tools including NetScout’s TestStream, Polatis switches with various vendor hardware platforms, and integrate them using automation with other technology platforms including Jenkins. Install various vendor EMSs with vendor support such as Cisco’s Evolved Programmable Network Manager, Ciena’s MCP, Nokia’s Network Functional Manager-Transport, and Infinera’s Digital Network Administration in the NTG Core Optical lab. Test or install all EMSs, automations, network intelligence projects before they are implemented in the field. Participate in the planning, installation, configuration, implementation, monitoring, troubleshooting and optimization of medium to high complexity network systems. Perform server maintenance using various Vmware tools and explore future potential virtualization technologies like containers and Kubernetes. Work closely with vendors to obtain, keep track of feature requests requested by our team, and ensure that bugs are managed and resolved in a timely manner. Travel to various vendor labs and conferences to participate in the evaluation process of various vendor products. Study and review new available technologies in the industry that meet Charter’s standards and solve capacity needs. Complete feasibility studies that members encounter in the field. Provide technical support and assistance to downstream partners like CBO Service Design and Optical Engineering teams during Early Field trail implementation of our lab trails. Provide additional insights into the optical network by programming the APIs/telemetry data provided by vendors. Provide updates and demo on a regular basis so that the work matches the team’s usage/expectation. Write papers and documentation to be published on any new technologies evaluated or workflows created. Work with vendors to provide long term solutions for network systems over the course of several years on matters such as Element Management Systems (EMS) and Automation. Participate in the
planning, installation, configuration, implementation, monitoring, troubleshooting and optimization of low to medium complexity network systems. Establish protocol compatibility standards, develop, implement network enhancements, and make recommendations for improvement. Work on automating test cases for various network software and hardware platforms. Automate and integrate Optical Element Management Systems (EMSs) with analytical tools thereby obtaining more insights/intelligence into the network than what the traditional tool provides and
has data control. Participate in the planning, installation, configuration, implementation, monitoring, troubleshooting and optimization of medium to high complexity network systems. Evaluate new products and perform network problem resolution. Provide technical support/assistance to our downstream partners during Early Field Trail (EFT) implementation of our lab trails and perform duties as requested by the manager, understand, and follow the company policy.
EDUCATION/REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Computer Networking, Telecommunications, Information Technology, or a related field, as well as three (3) years of experience programming utilizing APIs and programming languages, including Python or TAPI; performing Analytics, Infrastructure, and Data Warehousing with Apache Kafka, Apache Zookeeper, KSQL, SQL, Grafana, ELK stack, AWS S3, Snowflake, and Jenkins; networking with OSI model, DNS, DHCP, OSPF, BGP, NTP, L2VPN, L3VPN, and MPLS; virtualizing with VMwage-ESXi, VSphere, VCenter, VMotion, Containers, and Kubernetes; and utilizing ROADM architecture, DWDM Systems-Transmitter, Receiver, modulation formats-QPSK, 8/16/64 QAM, coherent technology, C+L band, Optical Signal flow, and Transport line system. Required national travel 3-5 days per month.

The pay for this position has a salary range of$118,539.00 to $196,400.00. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience and location. Also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of compensation such as bonuses.
