　　Overview

　　We're looking for a Principal Engineer within the Australian Pacific timezone. You'll be part of a growing team, crafting our next-generation products and delivering value to our customers through creative improvements. You'll play a force-multiplier role, steering the engineering strategy, laying sound development principles, and driving scalable, fit-for-purpose architecture. You will also work with Product Management, Design, and Engineering Leadership to help inform product and platform strategy, and will report directly to the Senior Engineering Manager. You will joining the Continuous Control Monitoring team in Engineering Health. The CCM team provides a way for all Atlassian engineering teams to continuously evaluate their data to make sure their services are adhering to controls in the compliance space.

　　What you'll do

　　You'll be a hands-on engineer and will be accountable for backend related technical challengesWrite performant production-quality code in Java and Python.Tackle the largest and most complex features / problems on their team, from technical design to launch.Drive large, complex projects autonomously, from technical design to launch focusing on customer value.Work with the engineering and business teams to define long-term vision and map company-level initiatives to team-level roadmaps.Focus on solutions to help reduce the operational burden and tech debt, improve feature velocity and system health.Improve systems at scale.Have passion for collaborating with and mentoring members of the team.Teach others how to apply architecture patterns common to the team.Focus on business practicality and the 80/20 rule; very high bar for output quality, but recognise the business benefit of "having something now" vs "perfection sometime in the future".

　　Your background

　　You are an engineer at heart with experience tech leading large (multi-geo, multi-team) and complex projects.Have strong expertise in Java and Python.Have 10+ years of experience delivering new features or products.Have experience working closely with product and engineering management to define the technical strategy and roadmap.Have knowledge to evaluate trade-offs between correctness, robustness, performance, space and time.Have experience supporting and influencing senior engineers and principal engineers with technical mentorship and growth.Have experience partnering with technical teams, solving architectural challenges for company-wide initiatives, often spanning across several projects.You are on top of industry trends to better inform our approach and ensure our platform continues to delight developers.
