Discover's Identity Security Platform Authentication Services Team is seeking a self-motivated Principal Cybersecurity Engineer to automate, enhance, and optimize our portfolio. Our team champions Identity technologies and capabilities for Discover's Cybersecurity organization. This includes the design, development, and implementation, of impactful authentication technologies. This role is a great opportunity for someone passionate about applying Cybersecurity practice within the Identity domain. Our new team member will play a big role in securing Discover from emerging threats and adversaries.
The Principal Cybersecurity Engineer designs the Cybersecurity engineering roadmap, and delivers highly complex secure systems, cyber applications, technical projects and regulatory and risk requirements. This role drives Cybersecurity engineering solutions, framework, roadmap, program optimization, process engineering, risk remediation, and mitigation of operational risk in a high velocity culture. Analyzing cyber technologies, metrics models, and performance indicators are key activities this role performs on the road to identifying robust solutions and building resilient next-generation systems that solve business challenges and enhance the control environment. Actively manages and escalates risk and customer-impacting issues within the day-to-day role to management.
Responsibilities
· Acts as the principal advisor to upper management in Cybersecurity matters. Ensures security improvement designs are evaluated, validated, and implemented as required. Performs cyber defense incident triage, to include determining scope, urgency, and potential impact; identifying the specific vulnerability.
· Certifies that protection and detection capabilities are acquired or developed using the Cybersecurity engineering approach and are consistent with organization-level cybersecurity architecture
· Explores and assesses the latest technology trends, disruptions and security/IT service business models to ensure Business Technology maintains, and improves, organization cyber competitive edge
· Works closely with management to define and promote the strategic direction of the team. Provides strong leadership and direction to team members. Provides subject matter expertise across all Cybersecurity technologies
· Creates and maintains Cybersecurity technology roadmap. Ensures compliance to audit, regulatory and legal requirements. Makes recommendations that enable expeditious remediation
· Builds and maintains effective relationships with peers and internal business partners, and external vendors
· Oversees project implementation to ensure successful solution delivery
· Researches, engineers and integrates new Cybersecurity solutions. Applies service-oriented security architecture principles to meet organization's confidentiality, integrity, and availability requirements
Minimum Qualifications
At a minimum, here’s what we need from you:
· Bachelors – Computer Science or related
· 6+ years – Information Security, Application Security, Security Engineering or related
· Internal applicants only: technical proficiency rating of proficient on the Dreyfus engineering scale
Preferred Qualifications
Bonus Points If You Have:
· Strong skills and expertise in a combination of some of the following areas:
5+ years of Enterprise Single Sign-On/MFA using Cloud based Identity Provider (Okta, EntraID/AzureAD or other)
Working with application development teams to onboard applications to Single Sign-On platforms
Common Authentication technologies/protocols (SCIM, SAML2, OIDC, WebAuthn, FIDO/FIDO2/Passwordless via Windows Hello for Business or Passkey or Hardware Token, Kerberos, RADIUS)
On-Prem Directories (MS Active Directory, Oracle LDAP)
Cyber Security technologies including: Network Security, Firewalls, Reverse Proxies, VPNs, SIEM
Automation technologies using tools such as Chef, Ansible, Jenkins, Terraform, etc.
Risk Based Authentication and or User Behavior and Entity Analytics
Programming/Scripting (Python, PowerShell, etc.)
Troubleshooting Windows Server, Linux Server, Windows 10/11 and MacOS endpoints.
Working in an environment using the Agile methodology

Compensation:
The base pay for this position generally ranges between $104,000.00 to $175,600.00. Additional incentives may be provided as part of a market competitive total compensation package. Factors, such as but not limited to, geographical location, relevant experience, education, and skill level may impact the pay for this position.
