The Principal, Clinical Insights and Alliances, Diagnostics Platform, will play a vital role in supporting the Senior Director, Clinical Insights, in partnering with the diagnostics-focused Chief Scientific Officers (CSOs) and the six Danaher diagnostics operating companies, to enable realization of innovative diagnostic solutions to high value problems in strategically prioritized disease states. This position is part of the Diagnostics Platform CSO Office located at various remote locations across the United States and will be fully remote. In particular, this individual will serve as a thought partner for the Diagnostics CSO Oncology.
Specific duties include but are not limited to:
Characterize disease state problems, with a primary focus on but not limited to cancer, as they exist in their current state, associated clinical care pathways, market opportunities, business cases, literature searches, and innovative science and technology diagnostic/prognostic solutions. Synthesize these findings into executive-facing narratives that “tell the story” of how Danaher’s investment in specific areas will impact patient outcomes and enable favorable health economic impacts. Must possess “systems-level thinking” and be able to present complex scientific concepts in a simplified and visual way to executives.
Develop and execute the early “incubation/feasibility” stage of new opportunities, either through internal Operating Company R&D partnerships or via external collaborations with academics and/or open innovation partners. “Pitch” the innovation from “incubator stage” to respective Danaher Operating Company “catchers” and toggle between strategic and tactical as needed to ensure successful handoff.
The essential requirements of the job include:
Internal Alliance Management and Change Management Agent: Possess the ability to work effectively within and across Danaher Corporate and Diagnostics Operating Companies (horizontally and vertically) to connect people to the bigger picture of branding Danaher collectively as a science and technology innovator. Proven change management track record in a matrixed and/or decentralized corporate organization.
External Alliance Management: Work closely with the Head of Diagnostics Innovations and other stakeholders within Danaher, to source, lead, and coordinate strategic partnerships with key academic centers pioneering the technologies that will drive disruptive new product developments in the Danaher Diagnostic portfolio. Must be comfortable and confident having scientific conversations with principal investigators at target academic sites. Other external alliances may include cultivating relationships with government partners (e.g. Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA)) and/or open innovation tech startup company leadership.
Scientific Research Analysis: Aptitude in triangulating data sources to derive clinical/scientific insights in the context of the diagnostics market space. Data sources could include voice of customer (VOC), IP landscapes, market reports, industry news, and tracking the latest developments in disease states of interest through conference proceedings and literature searches. Areas of initial interest will include diagnostics in molecular oncology, acute care, neuro, and infectious disease. The candidate need not have domain expertise in any or all of these areas but should be able to quickly get up to speed, from a scientific perspective, to perform the job duties regardless of the scientific domain. Demonstrated ability to go broad and deep on prioritized topics of interest.
Doctorate degree in a biomedical science (e.g. molecular cell biology, immunology, genetics, microbiology, or related field) with long-standing experience (7-10+ years) in a scientific, technology, or innovation-related role in medical device, in vitro diagnostics (IVD), life sciences, or pharmaceutical industry. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required.
In depth knowledge of the oncology disease space and evolving trends and technologies to enable the unlocking precision medicine through diagnostics
Travel requirements: up to 15-20%
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
Multimodal data discovery. Passionate about the intersect between data science and clinical outcomes to derive more accurate, scalable, and implementable multimodal precision diagnostics and prognostics (do not need to know how to code but previous experience working to understand this intersect a plus).
Clinical trial design and regulatory experience
Prior CLIA lab experience a plus
Past experience working in pharma with Companion Diagnostics (CDx) a plus
MBA and/or management consulting experience
Mekko software for market segmentation and other graphical display techniques in PowerPoint
