We're hiring a Principal Site Reliability Engineer in the Card Portfolio group to support Discover Card's core platform. You'll interact with product leaders and their teams supporting large-scale systems of record for all Cardholders as you get a chance to build up the SRE practice from the ground up.
The SRE function isn't new across Discover. In Card Portfolio, we historically relied on our engineering teams to play that role when needed. Along the way, we've realized that we need to find a leader in this craft to define and execute on the "how". Moreover, it opens the opportunity for this leader to contribute both internally and externally across the SRE community.

What you'll do:
Oversee the availability, performance, and reliability of our critical services, collaborating closely with product teamsDefine and implement observability strategies across our product teamsLead investigations into service problems (blameless post-mortems) and surface themes to enhance overall system reliabilityPartner with teams and provide hands-on training in observability, incident management, and reliability best practices (i.e., defining SLOs, support playbooks, logging standards, etc.)Roll up your sleeves as needed to pair with engineers on troubleshooting, pairing, or code reviewsActively manage, escalate risk and customer-impacting issues to management within the day-to-day role
Minimum Qualifications
At a minimum, here's what we need from you:
Bachelors - Computer Science or related6+ Years -- Information Technology, (Software) Engineering, or relatedInternal applicants only: technical proficiency rating of proficient on the Dreyfus engineering scale
Preferred Qualifications
Bonus Points If You Have:
3+ years in an SRE or DevOps roleExperience with DevOps tools, processes, and cultureExtensive experience leading customer facing systems in a mission critical environmentAdvanced experience with programming and/or scripting languages (Python, Java, bash)In depth knowledge on application development landscape - Java, Rest API, design patterns and CI/CD. Extensive experience with monitoring and observability tools/technologies (i.e., Grafana, Kibana, Datadog, AppDynamics)

Compensation:
The base pay for this position generally ranges between $104,000.00 to $175,600.00. Additional incentives may be provided as part of a market competitive total compensation package. Factors, such as but not limited to, geographical location, relevant experience, education, and skill level may impact the pay for this position.
