Job Description:
As a Back End Engineer, you’ll analyze, develop, and design solutions for our application software. In our Agile environment, you’ll do this by performing technical design, coding with test automation, support, and documentation of software application modifications. Ultimately, through continuous integration, development and testing, you’ll ensure we deliver quality code. Actively manages and escalates risk and customer-impacting issues within the day-to-day role to management.

Creates solutions addressing high impact technology and business priorities
Competent in multiple contexts, including programming languages, security, automation, testing, and business domains and is the go-to person for many people (inside and outside of their team)
Participates in strategic technology decisions and learns how these decisions impact Discover as a whole
Proactively identifies and mitigates issues based on intuition and experience in multiple domains

Minimum Qualifications
At a minimum, here’s what we need from you:
Bachelors – Computer Science or related
Information Technology, (Software) Engineering, or related
Experience in leading software engineers utilizing Agile + BDD/TDD delivery methods.
Java backend programming experience and in-depth experience of multiple Java based applications and platforms
Demonstrates reliability and dependability for your team/area, displays self-awareness, collaboration and ability to improve based on feedback from others.
Experience supporting a product or service provided to a development and/or product community.
Internal applicants only: technical proficiency rating of proficient on the Dreyfus engineering scale
Preferred Qualifications
Bonus Points If You Have:
Experience working in a highly complex and scaled global technology organization
Time spent working for an organization in either the Financial Services or Payments Technology spaces
You are competent & confident in multiple programming language types – scripting, OO, functional.
You have hands on experience of implementing CI/CD/CT pipelines and advocacy of DevSecOps culture.
Expected to be technically strong in most of following general areas:
Core Java and Python
Spring framework (core, integration, boot and other libraries)
AWS Cloud - S3, EMR, Lambda
Experience with data pipelining coding techniques that are commonly used in streaming development with Apache Spark, Apache Kafka, Apache HDFS, Hadoop stack (Hbase, Storm)
REST APIs, JSON, Contract Testing
UNIX/Linux (command line and shell scripting)
Continuous Integration/Deployment/Testing with Jenkins, Terraform, Cucumber (or similar)
Test Driven Development [TDD], Behaviour Driven Development [BDD]
Performance benchmarking and analysis
