Currently, we are looking for PostgreSQL DBA to join IPS.
Position Description (scope of work or brief narrative):
As a Database Administrator, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining the client's database systems to ensure optimal performance, security, and availability. You will work closely with the IT team, developers, and other stakeholders to design, implement, performance tuning, and troubleshoot database solutions that meet the business requirements. Your role is crucial in ensuring data integrity, performance, reliability, and seamless integration with AWS cloud infrastructure for critical applications and systems that rely on databases.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Database Installation and Configuration:
• Install, configure, and upgrade database management systems (DBMS) and associated tools.
• Implement and maintain database server environments, ensuring proper hardware and software configurations.
2. Database Design and Development:
• Collaborate with application developers to design and optimize database structures for efficient data storage and retrieval.
• Design and implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery plans to protect critical data.
3. AWS Cloud Integration:
• Collaborate with the DevOps team to design and implement AWS cloud solutions that effectively utilize PostgreSQL databases.
• Manage AWS resources related to PostgreSQL databases, such as EC2 instances, RDS instances, and S3 storage.
• Automate database tasks using AWS services like AWS Lambda, AWS CloudFormation, and AWS RDS/Aurora.
4. Database Migration and Upgrades:
• Plan and execute database migration projects, including schema migration, data migration, and application migration.
• Develop and implement migration strategies to minimize downtime and ensure data consistency.
• Plan & perform database upgrades, applying patches, and ensuring compatibility with new versions of PostgreSQL and AWS services.
• Conduct thorough testing and validation of migrated databases to ensure data integrity and optimal performance.
5. Performance Monitoring and Tuning:
• Monitor database performance, identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks.
6. Security and Access Control:
• Implement and enforce security measures to protect sensitive data from unauthorized access.
• Manage user access and permissions to the database, ensuring compliance with security policies.
7. Data Integrity and Quality:
• Monitor and maintain data integrity, validating and cleansing data as needed.
• Implement data quality and validation processes to ensure accurate and reliable information.
8. Backup and Recovery:
• Develop and maintain database backup and recovery strategies to safeguard data against data loss.
• Perform regular backups and conduct recovery procedures when necessary.
9. Database Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution:
• Diagnose and resolve database-related issues, including connectivity problems, performance bottlenecks, and data corruption.
• Conduct root cause analysis for database-related incidents and implement corrective actions.
10. Database Documentation:
• Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for databases, including schema, configurations, and troubleshooting procedures.
Required years of experience, training, technical skills, and other requirements for job performance: Should possess a minimum of 7 years of experience as a DBA. Proven experience as a Database Administrator or in a similar role. In-depth knowledge of database management systems, primarily PostgreSQL V15 and above, Oracle V19c. Familiarity with database design principles, data normalization, and indexing techniques. Understanding of data security and access control principles. Strong knowledge of cloud-based database services (e.g., AWS RDS, SCT, and DMS). Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL replication, high availability, and disaster recovery mechanisms in the AWS Cloud environment. Experience with PostgreSQL monitoring and performance tuning tools. Proficiency in SQL and experience with writing complex queries and stored procedures. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an ability to troubleshoot database-related issues. Familiarity with Linux/Unix operating systems and shell scripting. Preferred Qualifications: PostgreSQL/Oracle certifications (e.g., PostgreSQL Certified Professional). AWS certifications (e.g. AWS Certified Database - Specialty) Educational Requirements: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, or foreign equivalent, required from an accredited institution. Will also consider three years of progressive, relevant work experience instead of every year of education. Candidates that have completed a Master's degree program are strongly preferred. The job entails sitting as well as working at a computer for extended periods. Should be able to communicate by telephone, email, or face-to-face. Travel may be required as per the job requirements.
