Description
Amazon’s Supply Chain Optimization Technologies (SCOT) team is looking for talented Postdoctoral Scientists to join Amazon for a one-year, full-time research position. Postdoctoral Scientists will focus on solving research-intense business problems by exploring new research ideas, accelerating scientific innovation and impact, and publishing their work in peer-reviewed scientific venues. Postdocs will raise the scientific bar across Amazon by diving deep into exploratory areas of research to enhance the customer experience and improve efficiencies.
SCOT owns Amazon’s global inventory planning systems. We decide what, when, where, and how much we should buy to meet Amazon’s business goals and to make our customers happy. We decide how to place and move inventory in Amazon network and what do with our current inventory. We do this for hundreds of millions of items and hundreds of product lines worth billions of dollars of world-wide. We decide how to make delivery promises to our customers and how to meet those promises. Our systems are built entirely in-house, and are on the cutting edge of automated large-scale planning, execution and simulation technology. In SCOT, we are simultaneously pushing the frontier of the science of planning for new and old business use-cases and solving some of the toughest computational challenges. We are responsible for studying, designing, and building systems to suit Amazon’s needs and do not rely on existing off-the-self planning solutions. Our team members are on the forefront of thought leadership by working on the most challenging problems in the industry with some of the best minds in the business and academia. The ideal candidate has solid research experience broadly in the domain of mathematical sciences (operations research, statistics, ML, economics) or other closely related areas.
