Primary Functions Devote at least 75% effort to the researchproject developed collaboratively between the mentor and fellow. 25%effort will be for further professional and academic development. Workas a team with other lab members to advance projects in the lab formanuscripts and grant proposals. Work independently on a researchproject, formulated in collaboration with the research mentor, with thegoal of producing a manuscript. Take direction from the PI to completeprojects. Learn to develop, in a mentored fashion, hypotheses and designexperiments to test hypotheses. Demonstrate good organizational and timemanagement skills. Record completed and accurate laboratory methods andresults in a laboratory notebook. Use appropriate tools and software todocument and analyze collected data. Communicate summaries ofexperimental results to lab members and mentor. Evaluate, interpret, andassess experimental data and quality control of assays. Participate inprogram and lab group activities such as lab meetings and seminars toenrich the participants\' verbal skills, analytical and criticalthinking abilities and build the academic credentials to supportcompletion of an MD, PhD, or MD-PhD degree. Participate in periodicreview meetings with program leadership to assess progress in achievingprogram metrics. Participate in research conferences within and beyondthe institution. Participate in community engagement and outreachactivities. Knowledge - Skills - Abilities Knowledge of basic biologyand chemistry principles.
