The Financial Analysis & Budget Strategy team (FABS), a sub-unit of OPB, is responsible for key functions such as budget operations, financial planning and analysis, forecasting and Activity Based Budgeting (ABB) modeling, data management, and specialized consultative services. By combining these key functions OPB serves the UW’s executive leadership and enterprise business units in a timely, well-coordinated, and holistic way.
We have an outstanding opportunity for an Adaptive Planning Systems Analyst.
Reporting to the Enterprise Adaptive Planning Model Administrator, the Adaptive Planning Systems Analyst serves as the enterprise-wide (Academy and Medicine) business system functional analyst and as a subject matter expert on functional aspects of the UW’s deployment of Workday Adaptive Planning.
This position requires flexibility and in-depth functional knowledge necessary to adapt University planning systems to meet the strategic and transactional needs of the University.
As systems, processes, and process partners change, this position needs to be an effective communicator and change manager in support of University business units and leadership.
A keen understanding of University functions and knowledge of data generated and used is key to being successful in this position.
Organizational and collaborative skills are needed to make the best use of time and resources to address issues and opportunities effectively and in a timely manner in response to requests from the University’s senior leadership.
Duties & Responsibilities
(60%) Enterprise Planning System Analysis and Support
• Maintain enterprise planning models, versions, dimensions, levels, attributes, and related functionality within Workday Adaptive Planning.• Gather, evaluate, and act on Academy user feedback to develop, prioritize, and propose solutions to improve system functionality and user experience.• Develop job aids and training materials in a variety of mediums and participates in Academy end user training in Workday Adaptive Planning.• Audit and maintain data flows from Workday Financials to and from Workday Adaptive Planning, proposing minor design changes to improve the end user experience and data integrity• Participate in larger system and process design changes as the needs of the University evolve.
(30%) Report Development, Analysis and Quality Assurance
• Maintain and enhance data quality assurance processes related to data and data presentation (e.g., reports, dashboards, OfficeConnect) within the Workday Adaptive Planning and Workday Financials.• Assist in the annual budget development process, including, but not limited to performing detailed evaluation and analysis of Academy unit budget submissions.• TriageAdaptive Planning new report requests and evaluate for fit, priority, and level of effort to deploy.• Write, modify, or otherwise enhance the reporting tools within Workday Adaptive Planning, with an eye towards ensuring reports are not duplicated across the University’s financial reporting infrastructure
(10%) Other Related Functions
• Serve as the backup to the Enterprise Adaptive Planning Model Administrator• Serve as backup to the Analyst assigned with maintaining the Workday Foundation Data Model (within OPB’s scope)• Other duties as assigned by Enterprise Adaptive Planning Model Administrator related to the ongoing support and analysis of the UW’s budget systems and budget.
Requirements include:
• Bachelor's degree, preferably in business, accounting, finance, information systems, or a related field or equivalent experience• 4 years accumulated professional experience• Strong understanding of basic financial accounting concepts and principles.• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including macros, embedded queries, and pivot tables.• Ability to independently prioritize and accomplish work, track multiple tasks and details simultaneously, and exercise initiative and independent judgement appropriately in response to varying situations.• Strong, demonstrable commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable and inclusive work environment is required• Ability to communicate succinctly and effectively in written or verbal form, including a high level of comfort presenting complex topics to a wide array of audiences• Must have an eye for detail and commitment to process improvement
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Desired:
• Experience configuring or implementing Workday Adaptive Planning software or similar modern enterprise resource planning system.• Experience with the development and administration of complex capital or operating budgets, including administration of budget systems• Familiarity with Microsoft PowerBI, SQL, Python or similar computer languages.• Experience conducting training in one on one or group settings
Working Environment:
• Position is in an open cubicle environment with regular telework.• Responsibilities of the position may require the ability to work outside normal business hours as needed to accomplish assignments, to deliver materials in response to internally or externally imposed deadlines, and to troubleshoot problems encountered by or otherwise confer with internal and external customers.
