JOB REQUIREMENTS: Patrol assigned area to enforce laws and ordinances,regulate traffic, control crowds, prevent crime, and arrest violators.This is an entry level law enforcement position with responsibilitiesincluding working as a team member to enforce laws, maintaining thepublic peace, protecting life and property and working with thecommunity to address community problems. Incumbents in this positionpatrol assigned areas, respond to criminal, suspicious, traffic andunusual situations as directed, investigate activities, gather evidence,secure areas, protect victims, the public and property, apprehendviolators, complete appropriate paperwork, and perform other relatedduties as required. Duties are performed under general supervision ofthe on-duty supervisor or shift commander. Direct traffic flow andreroute traffic in case of emergencies. Identify, pursue, and arrestsuspects and perpetrators of criminal acts. Inform citizens of communityservices and recommend options to facilitate longer-term problemresolution. Inspect public establishments to ensure compliance withrules and regulations. Investigate traffic accidents and other accidentsto determine causes and to determine if a crime has been committed.Issue citations or warnings to violators of motor vehicle ordinances.Monitor traffic to ensure motorists observe traffic regulations andexhibit safe driving procedures. Monitor, note, report, and investigatesuspicious persons and situations, safety hazards, and unusual orillegal activity in patrol area. Patrol specific area on foot,horseback, or motorized conveyance, responding promptly to calls forassistance. Photograph or draw diagrams of crime or accident scenes andinterview principals and eyewitnesses. Provide for public safety bymaintaining order, responding to emergencies, protecting people andproperty, enforcing motor vehicle and criminal laws, and promoting goodcommunity relations. Provide road information to assist motorists.Record facts to prepare reports that document incidents and activities.Relay complaint and emergency-request information to appropriate agencydispatchers. Review facts of incidents to determine if criminal act orstatute violations were involved.
