Pilot Plant Research Technician- Tech Center, Caldwell

Summary
This role provides support to Food Scientist, Process Engineers, and Project Managers in the timely completion of specific research and development food products using potatoes and other base materials. Assures that the Pilot Plant equipment is properly assembled, set up, operated, and cleaned. Assists with special customer presentations and sample preparation for such presentations. Performs work assigned by others. Provides time / resource estimates for assigned tasks. Contributes independently. Must be certified or be capable of certification as a forklift operator. Research Technicians will work within laboratories, Pilot Plant, Culinary and Production facilities.
Key Responsibilities
Implement and adhere to strict food safety procedures while following good manufacturing practices in the production of all samples for internal research, customer research, and consumer testing into new and modified products.
Coordinate supply of ingredients, fiber and adequate supply of processing ingredients required for research sample production. Ordering will include direct interaction with operations personnel and R&D management.
Assist research staff with project documentation that contributes to the protection of J.R. Simplot and R&D confidentiality and intellectual property by: accurate input of analytical results into experimental orders, contribute to project results and discussion through skilled observation and input to the research scientists.
Follow all required EHS&S policies, procedures, and practices.
Lead smaller research projects on the batch or continuous line from project design through completion.
Typical Education
Bachelor's Degree (B.A. or B.S.) from 4 year college or university preferred
Relevant Experience
1+ years related experience and/or training
Required Certifications
LSS yellow belt trained or ability to be yellow belt trained
Other Information
• Knowledge and some demonstrated experience in biology and English
• Good organizational, verbal and written communication skills, validating and contributing to team documentation
• Basic time management and planning skills
• Basic understanding of office computer tools, e.g., word processing, e-mail, spreadsheets, presentations
• Basic understanding of biotechnology, or other biology field
• Can apply critical thinking skills to solving problems and some technical aptitude
• Ability to interface with vendors for support and maintenance
• Ability to gather and disseminate information, analysis and technical solution recommendations in support of team efforts
