Zendesk is significantly extending its software engineering presence in Serbia across various products in its portfolio (Support, Machine Learning, Explore, and others). As we continue to scale, we're looking for a Software Engineer II, with a focus on Backend technologies like PHP, Laravel, Docker, AWS, PostgreSQL, Kafka, and Swoole, to join our team.
Zendesk services over 130,000 customers worldwide, each of our products is a large-scale distributed system. We run our services with a mix of Docker, Kubernetes and EC2, all running in AWS. Our services use Elasticache, Redis, PostgreSQL, Kafka, Clickhouse as a bonus, and many other AWS services.
What youll be doing?
Translate business requirements into technical requirements and take ownership of any development task within an application or service, delivering high-quality code on time.Contribute to the technical design and solutions within your domain area, and provide helpful, timely code reviews.Write, test, and maintain code used by millions of people worldwide, following best practices and standards with minimal guidance.Continually improve your and your colleagues' code through peer review, pair programming, and knowledge sharing.Ensure operational excellence (e.g., reliability, security) of the systems you and your team own.Craft and improve documentation for your team and throughout Zendesk.Partner with customer advocates to fix bugs impacting our customers and their end users.Estimate and prioritize work based on trade-offs and collaboration with stakeholders.Enforce engineering best practices when designing, building, and maintaining our systems.
What would you bring to the team?
Hands-on experience in PHP/Laravel, with an affinity for developing high-performing backend systems.Expertise with modern web development frameworks, coupled with an understanding of distributed systems' concepts (eventual consistency, timeouts, partitioning, circuit breaking, etc.).Familiarity with our tech stack, including Swoole, Docker, CI/CD, AWS, PostgreSQL, Kafka, unit tests, and Agile Scrum methodologies. Experience with RESTful and event-driven architectures, with a bonus for knowledge of Clickhouse.Adept communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate your thoughts and actively listen to the perspectives of others.Resilience in the face of change, demonstrating an open mind and adaptability to shifting requirements or objectives.An inherent drive for knowledge and improvement, showcasing a passion for learning and continuous personal and professional development.
