Are you passionate about visual journalism in a way that can engage, entertain, and inform audiences? The Holland Sentinel/hollandsentinel.com, part of the USA TODAY NETWORK, is seeking a photo and digital journalist to capture the most important moments in our community.
The right candidate will have experience writing crystal-clear captions, chatting with sources, and spending time on the front lines. We are seeking a journalist who will jump into action in breaking news situations and be dedicated to our market, in addition to aiding other papers in the network and working closely with our sports team.
Equity and inclusion are central to our reporting and we need a photojournalist who shares in our mission of including the vast array of subjects, including a diversity of ages, genders, races, religions and physical and mental abilities.
Responsibilities include: Connect with the community through storytelling. Working with your editor to evaluate what's working and what's not and develop ongoing plans to better reach audience needs. Capture high-res photos and video and aiding in other visual journalism. Requirements: Bachelor's or master's in communications, journalism, photojournalism, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At least two years of reporting experience in a daily newsroom. Strong communication skills, news judgment and caption-writing ability. Strong interpersonal skills, including empathy and compassion. Proficiency on social media platforms; including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and experience engaging readers in this public space. Energetic self-starter and a fast thinker who can spot scenes that matter. Ability to multitask and excel in a fast-paced environment under intense deadline pressure. Ability to work collaboratively and efficiently with a team of journalists. Command of media law and principles of ethical conduct. This role requires a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and the minimum liability insurance required by state law.
