Position Summary:
The newly formed School of Communication, Journalism, and Media Arts invites applications for a tenure-track position in the Photojournalism Major. Help reimagine our award-winning photojournalism program's role in the new school. The ideal candidate will show evidence of accomplishments in teaching at the undergraduate level, professional photo and video experience, and the ability to stay current in the field. The candidate will teach lower- and upper-level photojournalism and multimedia journalism courses and advise photojournalism students. The candidate will assist with recruitment, curriculum development, assessment and ACEJMC accreditation efforts for the School. Either refereed academic scholarship or published professional work are required to obtain tenure.
Required Qualifications:
• Master's degree in Photojournalism, Multimedia Journalism, Journalism, or related field OR bachelor's degree in areas noted above with at least 10 years of distinguished, award-winning professional photojournalism experience.
• Professional experience with in-depth storytelling for photojournalism and video production.
• Knowledge of the business of photography, including copyright, contracts and building a brand.
• Previous college teaching experience and mentorship of beginning visual journalists.
• Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
Preferred Qualifications:
• PhD or MFA in photojournalism or visual storytelling area.
• 3-5 years experience teaching in a higher education and mentorship of beginning visual journalists.
• Publication/distribution of work by national and international news organizations.
