This position, located in Panama City, FL, is part of Gannett's Center for Community Journalism -a nationwide leadership, editing and planning structure supporting small and mid-sized newsrooms coast-to-coast. Its mission is to provide unique, high-impact coverage as a public service in local communities. We are building a sustainable model that will support local journalism far into the future. The CCJ is not interested in merely surviving. We aim to thrive. We are looking for frontline journalists eager to join our quest to transform community journalism for the long haul.
Our Victorville visual journalist will be responsible for creating compelling multimedia journalism, including photographs for online and print, photo galleries/slideshows and videos. Must be a self-starter with a passion for identifying and pursuing compelling visual stories. The successful candidate, in conjunction with reporters, will capture outstanding images and video to document community events, local government meetings, humanistic profiles, breaking news, portraits, investigations and high school sports.
Typical job duties:
• Creates visual storytelling that accurately informs, entertains and engages specific audiences and platforms, determined through the use of digital metrics.
• Connects with the community through visual storytelling and outreach, in person and online.
• Collaborates with reporters to provide the best possible visual elements for key stories.
• Coaches and mentors non-visual reporters in photography and multimedia skills.
• Works with local editor and audience analyst to evaluate what's working and what's not to develop ongoing plans to better satisfy audience needs.
Requirements:
• Bachelor's in Communications, Journalism or equivalent in experience and education.
• Experience with professional photography on multiple platforms.
• Experience building a personal brand on key social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, X).
