This position performs technical and customer service duties in processing of building permits.
Job Domains
Receives construction permit applications; reviews applications for accuracy and completeness.Reviews plans for setbacks for zoning restriction violations.Calculates permit charges, collects payments, and issues receipts.Issues building permit cards; forwards payments to revenue staff.Provides support for the Board of Adjustments; prepares required legal notices; notifies adjacent property owners as required; prepares meeting packets and forwards to board members and City Attorney; prepares and distributes meeting agendas; takes minutes; forwards board decisions and documents to City Attorney.Provides support for the Planning Commission; prepares legal notices as required; prepares maps of zoning changes for advertising; prepares preliminary plat advertisements; sends notifications to affected property owners; prepares meeting packets forwards to commissioners; prepares meeting agendas and notifies commissioners of meeting dates; takes minutes; prepares rezoning packets for City Council for approval.Performs bidding and purchasing functions; mails bid requests to vendors; receives and processes vendor bids; enters department purchase orders into computer system; prints and carries out department purchases; receives shipments and ensures accuracy and completeness.Processes department payroll.Answers telephone and greets visitors; provides information and assistance; refers to appropriate personnel.Maintains office and janitorial supplies; reorders as needed.Performs related duties.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesKNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

The Assistant Director of Engineering Services assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

Guidelines include the municipal code, the city zoning ordinance, subdivision regulations, the comprehensive plan, and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.

The work consists of related technical and customer service duties. Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge and level of comp tency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to a high school diploma.Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.Bilingual skills in Spanish preferred.BENEFITS
