Summary:
The Patient Care Attendant is an employee of NLCC/ A.R. Gould. Under the supervision of an RN, the sitter provides direct observation of a patient at risk for safety. The incumbent performs duties in accordance with performance standards established for the job. The incumbent is responsible for participation in and completion of all patient safety initiatives appropriate to the position. In addition, incumbent conducts all job responsibilities according to the Mission and Values of A.R. Gould.
Responsibilities:
Follows instructions from RN for resident observation.
Stays with resident at all times, keeping the resident in full view at all times, and remains alert and observes patient during their assigned shift.
Arranges coverage for resident when needs to leave room.
Notifies the RN of any change in resident’s condition, intentions, or if verbalizes intent to hurt self or others.
Maintains confidentiality of resident information.
Demonstrates respect and dignity of resident.
Assists the resident with meal tray set up (opening cartons, removing lids, etc.).
Monitors resident safety.
Utilizes respectful verbal cues to elicit resident cooperation.
Participates in general conversation or other distraction activities if desired by resident.
Ensures all personal care items are within resident reach.
Maintains clean and organized appearance of resident room.
May perform other duties upon request.
Is physically able to move quickly as needed for safety of the resident.
Is physically able to push the resident who is in a wheelchair as needed.
