Parks Maintenance Technician ICity of Nampa\The City of Nampa Parks Department is seeking an individual who loves towork outside and be a part of a team to beautify our city's parks andtrails. This position performs a variety of routine manual andsemi-skilled turfgrass management, landscape construction, maintenance,and repair work in an assigned area of responsibility, including parks,pathways, right-of-way areas, and other city properties. May serve asthe lead worker over an assigned maintenance crew; performs other dutiesas required or assigned.
Positions Supervised: Supervision may be exercised over SeasonalMaintenance Personnel.Work Schedule: Generally, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm; however, must be able towork flexible and varied hours
Essential Functions Statement(s)Performs the full range of manual and semi-skilled turfgrass management,landscape construction, maintenance, and repair work in an assigned areaof responsibility.Instructs or leads the work of an assigned maintenance crew and/orseasonal workers to ensure the safe and efficient completion of all workassignments.Maintains and repairs City parks, pathways, right-of-way areas, andother city properties.Maintains and repairs light and heavy equipment and maintenance toolsand equipment, as necessary.Inspection and maintenance of park amenities such as playgrounds,drinking fountains, benches, shelters, restrooms, and sportscourts/fields.Performs turfgrass management practices including mowing, irrigationinstallation and calibration, aeration, fertilization, and pesticideapplication.Maintains City pathways to comply with safety and regulations.Secures assigned work areas from hazards to ensure the safety ofrecreational participants, maintenance crews, and the general public,including flagging traffic.Maintains parks and City grounds in clean and safe conditions, includingpicking up trash, tree and shrub pruning, weeding, spraying, plowing,de-icing, and snow removal, and general maintenance, as necessary.Assumes responsibility for other duties as required or assigned andattends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions andreviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remaincurrent on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned workareas.Install, operate, and troubleshoot irrigation systems includingconventional and 2-wire controllers, valve repair and maintenance, headinstallation, cleaning, repair, and adjustment.Work closely with other City departments and/or civic organizations andcommunity volunteers.
SKILLS/ABILITIESAbility to lead and supervise the work of others as assigned.\Ability to efficiently operate related City vehicles, construction andmaintenance tools, and equipment, including trucks, tractors, backhoes,mowers, sprinklers, and other related equipment.\Ability to work outdoors for extended periods of time with exposure tovarying weather conditions and day or night schedules as required.\Ability to meet the physical demands of mechanical and labor-intensiveduties including the ability to stand and walk for extended periods oftime and strength to lift and maneuver materials and equipment.\Ability to use a variety of hand tools and power tools safely.\Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written instructions,operate GIS systems and blueprints, and perform shop mathematics.\Ability to prepare accurate and reliable record keeping.\Ability to perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities withaccuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines.\Ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and inwriting, using both technical and non-technical language.\Ability and willingness to quickly learn and put to use new skills andknowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/ortechnology. Integrity, ingenuity, and inventiveness in the performanceof assigned tasks.
Education:High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED): Required\Experience:1 plus year of experience in grounds maintenance, ballfield maintenance,and/or turfgrass management.And/or any work experience related to the functional area of assignmentor any combination of experience and training which provides theequivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary toperform the work.\Computer Skills:Ability to operate a personal computer using standard or customizedsoftware applications appropriate to assigned tasks and the ability andwillingness to quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledgebrought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology.\Certifications Licenses:Valid State of Idaho Class A CDL Driver's License with thecombination.Idaho Pesticide License with Core Competency and Ornamental Herbicidesendorsement.First Aid CPR AED Certification.
