NATURE OF WORKThe Parks Maintenance Technician I will work with a team of other Parks,Recreation & Culture employees. This is the entry-level class in the ParksMaintenance Technician series. As a member of the Parks, Recreation &Culture Division, the Parks Maintenance Technician I perform semi-skilledand skilled tasks in all phases of parks, open space, trails, and sportsfield maintenance. Duties include, but are not limited to, grounds,sports fields, and sports complexes right of way, facility maintenance,facility and landscape construction, irrigation, special event, andfacility rental support, cleaning shelters, restrooms and hardscapes,mowing and hand-picking trash in all areas with a focus on highly visibleareas like public entrances to parks and facilities, parking lots,landscaped areas adjacent to buildings. This position also performs eventsupport services and snow and ice control/removal duties for Town buildings, paIndividuals in the position are required to perform work in a mannerconsistent with and exemplary of the Town s PRIDE philosophies and theTown s Equal Opportunity Employment policy.
SUPERVISION RECEIVEDIndividuals work in conjunction with park maintenance technicians all of whomare under the direct supervision of the Parks Supervisor to carry out assignedduties, functions, roles, and projects in both routine and complexcircumstances.

Maintains parks, trails, and open space as assigned including plantingtrees and shrubs; maintaining irrigation systems; mowing and trimminglawns, shrubs, and trees; weed control; raking leaves; and litter removal.Assists in disease and pest control and horticulture as requested or needed.Aerates, eradicates weeds, and removes plants as needed or requested.Reports the necessity for replacements as observed.Assists with installation, maintenance, and repairs (includingpainting) of park shelters, restrooms, picnic tables, benches,bleachers, and trash receptacles as well as scoreboards, soccer goals,park signs, other park structures, and irrigation/sprinkler systems.
Plows, shovels, and removes snow to provide useable citizen areas duringinclement weather, using a snow blower, shovel, hand tools, etc.Performs related duties as established by law/ ordinance or reasonablydirected by the Town.Maintains a variety of records relating to maintenance, construction, andinspection of park systems (parks, cemetery, open spaces, etc.).Maintains operations resources and equipment regarding inventory control andresource allocation. Ensures equipment is maintained per fleet policy.Completes and submits daily work reports, work orders, and payrolltimesheets in an accurate and timely manner.Assists in preparations and set up for Town-wide and department special eventswhich may require flexed scheduling and work on holidays.Accepts new work assignments and schedules work hours to meet the needs of theorganization.Cooperates with co-workers, supervisor, and other departments to fosterthe spirit of a team environment.Communicates ideas clearly and respectfully in order to improve processes.Understands written and verbal assignments, and asks questions if needed.Keeps supervisor apprised of issues and concerns within the organization.Accepts constructive input and implements suggestions for improvement.Applies chemicals, fertilizers, and other hazardous materials followingall safety precautions.Promotes a culture of safety in the workplace and reports safety hazards whenobserved.Provides courteous customer service; responds to questions and inquiriesfrom the general public.Participate in a wide variety of assigned maintenance duties on parks andfacilities including repair and installation of irrigation sprinkler heads,lines, and controllers.Perform equipment repair, adjustments, and lubrication. Participate in theconstruction, maintenance, and renovation of Town park facilities.Clean shelters and restrooms as needed and perform plumbing repairs as needed.Plant and maintain shrubs, flowers, turf, and landscaped areas.Maintain grounds for municipal buildings and parking lots.Work alone or as a member of a crew. Assist in snow removal operations.Accept on-call assignments as assigned.
OTHER DUTIESDepending on organizational need, additional duties may include the following:The Parks Maintenance Technician I position is part of the snow removalprogram which includes scheduled on-call responsibilities typically during themonths of October to April. Parks Maintenance Technician I is required toreview and acknowledge the Snow Guidelines annually.The Parks Maintenance Technician I position participates in the Shared FleetVehicle Program, which requires an annual motor vehicle record check.May be involved in special projects that are directly or indirectly related toessential job functions.Continues educational and certification requirements in order to remainabreast of current methods and procedures.Assisting other departments/divisions as necessary.Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
