The Massachusetts Department of Fish & Game works to preserve the state's natural resources and people's right to conservation of those resources, as protected by Article 97 of the Massachusetts Constitution. To carry out this mission, the Department exercises responsibility over the Commonwealth's marine and freshwater fisheries, wildlife species, plants, and natural communities, as well as the habitats that support them.
MassWildlife is responsible for the conservation of freshwater fish and wildlife in the Commonwealth, including endangered plants and animals. MassWildlife restores, protects, and manages land for wildlife to thrive and for people to enjoy.
The Department of Fish and Game, Division of Fisheries and Wildlife (MassWildlife) is accepting applications for the position of Outreach and Marketing Coordinator (Conservation Biologist III). The position is assigned to the MassWildlife Headquarters located in Westborough. Currently staff members utilize a hybrid schedule with a blend of in-office time in Westborough and remote telework.

Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Outreach and Education, the Outreach and Marketing Coordinator is responsible for a wide range of outreach, marketing, and communication activities related to the Division of Fisheries and Wildlife (MassWildlife). MassWildlife is seeking an experienced, dependable, detail-oriented, and highly motivated communications professional. The ideal candidate is a strong creative writer who has a background in wildlife conservation and management, and outdoor recreation who can manage multiple projects simultaneously and work well under tight deadlines. Responsibilities include promoting MassWildlife programs, services, products, and events to appropriate constituent groups including but not limited to: hunting and fishing groups, conservation organizations, municipal entities, outdoor recreation and tourism groups, natural resource professionals, educators, and state and federal agencies. The Outreach and Marketing Coordinator works with other staff to develop and implement strategies to raise public awareness of MassWildlife, and engage more people in conservation and fish and wildlife-based recreation. Position requires the ability to translate scientific concepts to messages that are scientifically sound and effective in reaching multiple audiences through various platforms.
DETAILED STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develop, implement, and evaluate communication strategies to educate constituents about wildlife conservation, increase MassWildlife's relevance to the general public, and recruit, retain, and reactivate hunters and anglers.
• Serve as the primary social media manager for the agency's Facebook and Instagram accounts; Assist with the development of the digital content calendar for all digital channels; Solicit input from agency staff to create and refresh content; Deliver exceptional customer service when answering public inquiries received through social media; Implement best practices for social media strategies to support MassWildlife's communication goals; and Manage, track, and report social media performance.
• Promote MassWildlife programs, services, and events that engage new and existing audiences, in coordination with staff from all programs, sections, and offices throughout the Agency.
• Create and edit engaging written copy and graphics for news releases, the MassWildlife website, social media, e-newsletters, brochures, outreach events, magazine articles, and more. Gather photo and video content for educational and promotional materials. Ensure the creative vision of content is aligned with the agency's branding standards.
• Design, implement, and evaluate marketing campaigns, including the solicitation of donations and the promotion of hunting, fishing and other wildlife-based recreation (e.g. birdwatching). Work with third-party marketing firms on digital advertising projects.
• Contribute to the ongoing development of the MassFishHunt online licensing system, including the implementation of innovative methods for engaging and communicating with hunting and angling customers. Ensure excellent digital constituent experiences.
• Develop and grow relationships with external conservation partners and collaborate on outreach initiatives.
• Assist with the development and promotion of educational resources and programs designed to recruit, retain, and reactivate (R3) hunters, anglers, and shooting sports participants.
• Represent MassWildlife at events, including virtual or in-person meetings, seminars, webinars, and conferences, as needed.
• Oversee FHQ reception ensuring excellent customer service is delivered to constituents who call or visit the Westborough Field Headquarters.
• Design, create, and update publications and graphics, as needed.
• Develop and implement grant applications and awards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

• Experience with digital advertising, including social media and search engine marketing, and understanding of evaluation of marketing efforts.
• Experience writing and editing content for websites.

• Ability to work nights and weekends on an as-needed basis.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud, including InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere, and Illustrator.
• Fundraising experience and knowledge.
• Ability to write and communicate in MassWildlife's branded voice.

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must have at least (A) four years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional, paraprofessional or technical experience in work involving the protection, preservation and/or management of endangered and protected species, of which (B) at least two years must have been in a professional capacity and of which (C) at least one year must have been in a supervisory capacity, or (D) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Substitutions:
I. A Bachelors degree with a major in zoology, botany, ornithology or herpetology, may be substituted for a maximum of two years of the required (A) experience on the basis of two years of education for one year of experience.
II. A Graduate degree with a major in zoology, botany, ornithology, or herpetology, may be substituted for one year of the required (A) experience on the basis of two years of education for one year of experience.
*Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
NOTE: Substitutions will not be permitted for the required (C) experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's license may be required.
