Description: The individual will be responsible for the following: optical design, perform analysis of and test complex optical designs in EO systems (primarily military fire control, missile, and laser systems). Responsible for conducting research and development in optical system concepts, layout, and detailed design, applying knowledge of geometrical and physical optics. Apply research results to achieve desired results in hardware. Initiate / support optics related manufacturing producibility or cost savings activities. Maintain the overall system optical prescription and tolerance analyses and update as required.
Basic Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in electrical or optical engineering from an accredited 4-year college or university required.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance
Desired Skills:
Familiar with lens materials and window coatings, and lens and window fabrication
Familiar with lens and window assembly, and optical system test and performance evaluation
Able to work in mutli-functional engineering teams with mechanical, opto- mechanical, electrical, thermal, structural, aerodynamic, software, system, and test engineers.
Experience with lens and optical design tools
Experience with IR missile seeker development, including design, assembly, integration, bench test performance testing, environmental testing, HWIL testing, and flight testing.
Familiarity with cryo-cooled and uncooled detector technology and gimbal system design and performance
Familiarity thermal, structural, and aerodynamics modelling and simulation
Familiar with multi-physics tools

Ability to Work Remotely: Part-time Remote Telework: The employee selected for this position will work part of their work schedule remotely and part of their work schedule at a designated Lockheed Martin facility. The specific weekly schedule will be discussed during the hiring process.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed.
