Primary Responsibilities:
Administrative
Assists in appointment scheduling for difficult and complex eye concerns
Assists in scheduling appropriate followup appointments and Ophthalmic testing
Maintains Physicians calendars and records surgery schedule
Records Eye Health and Medical Health history in chart and “flags” abnormal condition for the physician. Maintains patient medical record
Notifies patients of test results as directed by the Ophthalmologist
Revises daily schedule to accommodate patient flow and obtain necessary charts and reports for physician review
Processing, coding, and completing charge tickets
Renewal of prescriptions to the pharmacy for the physician
Clinical
Recording patient history and chief eye complaint
Providing patient education with regards to office policies, medications, tests and procedures as directed by ophthalmologist
Preparing patients for eye exams, vision testing, Ophthalmic screening and diagnostic tests for the physician. Tests include but are not limited to: Basic vision Screening, Lensometry, Auto Refraction, Tonopen, B.A.T., Color Test, Visual Fields, Pachymetry, IOL calculations
Assisting the physician with eye exams and Minor office procedures and surgeries
Administering Ophthalmic medications under the direct supervision of the Ophthalmologist
Change eye dressings’ or apply eye bandages as directed by ophthalmologist
Maintaining supplies, equipment, stocking, and sterilizing instruments
Disposing of biohazard waste according to OSHA guidelines
Practicing OSHA safety guidelines

Required Qualifications:
Completion of a Medical Assistant program
Current AHA BLS or willing to obtain within 30 days of hire
1+ years of experience working as an Ophthalmic Assistant or CMA/MA in an Ophthalmology Department
Preferred Qualifications:
Completion of Ophthalmic Assistant Certification
2+ years of experience in an ambulatory care setting -Ophthalmology/Optometry
Electronic Medical Records (EMR) experience
Bilingual English and Spanish
California Residents Only: The hourly range for California residents is $23.22 to $45.43 per hour.
