What You Will Do
The Operations Specialist 3 will be reporting to the Institutional Facilities (IF) organization and will be responsible for providing operational support to the division. IF is one of six Facility Operations Directorates (FOD) responsible for providing operational leadership and support in the areas of Facility Maintenance, Operations, Environment Safety & Health, Engineering, and Waste Services. It is the responsibility of the FOD to ensure facilities are operated and maintained in a safe, secure, and fully functional manner for mission execution. IF-FOD is responsible for managing over 800 buildings, which includes: office space, warehouse, data center, leased space, and historical buildings portfolio.
The IF-FOD is seeking Operations Specialist candidates that are highly motivated and enthusiastic with strong problem-solving, communication, and team-building skills. The selected candidate will provide operations support by assisting Operators, Building Managers and Operations Managers by developing and implementing facility and operational improvement initiatives, as well as daily support in all aspects of operations as needed.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Extensive experience performing routine facility or area walk-downs, procedure reviews, inspections, and/or evaluations to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the facility and/or organization.
Demonstrated excellent customer service and communication skills.
Extensive experience and demonstrated skill in identifying problem areas, investigating solutions, and determining action to be performed.
Extensive experience performing or assisting in periodic reviews and assessments to ensure facility and/or organization systems are operating properly and are being maintained within required limits.
Extensive working knowledge reviewing integrated work documents (IWDs), and other technical documents supporting facility, programmatic and project work.
Extensive experience preparing, reviewing, and authorizing work release on facility work packages and related work control processes in support of operations, maintenance, and project work evolutions associated with the daily operations of the facility or area.
Demonstrated ability to understand and interpret various physical, mechanical, and electrical documents, blueprints, drawings, and schematics.
Extensive working knowledge with adherence to all applicable laws, regulations, Department of Energy (DOE) orders and Laboratory requirements.
Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, post graduate course work may be desirable.
Desired Qualifications:
Extensive knowledge of Laboratory's organizational structure, and governing and implementing policies, procedures, and instructions.
Extensive understanding of work hazards, safety practices, operating configuration, and lock-out/tag-out policies and procedures.
Experience with information gathering and inquiries into abnormal facility events and occurrences.
Extensive working knowledge and experience in developing, implementing, and managing innovative process improvement inititives
Ability to obtain a Q Clearance

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Directive 206.2: Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
