(This is an On-the-Job Training position. Must meet OJT eligibility guidelines)
The Independent Living Center Occupational Therapist (OT} will report to the Community Integrated Supports and Services (CISandS) Director of the organization and work with the Director and other members of the CISandS Team. The Occupational Therapist will provide treatments to consumers of CISandS.
Pay Rate:
$
52,000.00 per year.
Work Schedule:
Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Job Duties:
(Basic Job Functions)
Responsible for providing consumers with treatment to help them develop and improve their ability to complete everyday tasks related to their home life, or volunteer or paid job. Perform initial consumer's occupational assessment, following up with reassessments for person-centered care plan. Teach consumers to use adaptive technology. Coach consumers on therapeutic activities to assist with everyday tasks.
Essentials Job Functions:
Assess the consumer's physical, communication and cognitive skills to develop a person-centered care plan. Provide advice and support for consumer and/or their caregiver. Install the necessary equipment in their home/agency location and teach them how to use the equipment. Assist consumers to take part in everyday activities based on their unique
circumstances. Review the consumer's progress and adapt treatments accordingly. Provide compassion and empathy for consumers, who are often in pain. Provide attention to detail regarding a consumer's problem(s) to analyze what they need to ease their pain and/or to prevent further injury or discomfort. Have strong interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with consumers and motivate them and their caregiver to engage in the care as recommended. Assist consumers to stretch and exercise certain muscle groups. Read, review and clearly articulate instructions. Speak with consumer and caregiver using the best at-home/center techniques. Work closely with consumers to learn more about their conditions to develop personalized OT plan that will assist them to work and live their best life. Keep occupational therapy area and equipment clean and organized. Complete administrative tasks, such as scheduling appointments, filing paperwork, regularly review and updating the consumer care plan. Complete documentation as directed in accordance with agency policies. Complete and submit incident reports to CISandS Director. Notify supervisor of any absence in advance so that appropriate steps may be taken to obtain a substitute. Attend staff, team and Person-Centered Planning meetings as directed. Identify opportunities to enable individual and organizational growth through occupational therapy learning, development, and training opportunities. Perform other duties as assigned and requested. Job Requirements:
(The ideal candidate will also bring the following skills and experience.) Qualifications:
Education:
Licensed Physical Therapist preferred; Physical Therapist Assistant may be acceptable. Training: CPR Certification. Experience: Experience working with adults with developmental disabilities preferred. General Skills: Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Physical Skills: Have a physical stamina to lift consumers and spent long hours standing and modeling exercises.
