Due to our continued growth, we are looking for an Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) Specialist. This role has national oversight responsibilities across the United States. The OHS Specialist will be a key player in the development and implementation of new OHS programs and systems throughout Paladin's USA operations. This position will promote a risk-forward culture of safety by working closely with various employee groups to motivate and encourage a safe working environment. Other key components of the role include providing technical and legislative guidance to operational teams, maintaining OHS performance statistics, overseeing contractor compliance portals, being an active member in incident investigations and safety committee initiatives, and supporting on worker's compensation claims. The OHS Specialist will also be responsible for providing ongoing support, training and education to Leads and staff with regards to OHS. General Responsibilities and Deliverables: Play an active role in the development, implementation, and maintenance of a comprehensive safety program throughout our US operations, while driving employee engagement. Act as a subject-matter expert to support key stakeholders in the performance of their functions, providing accurate OHS state and federal legislative advice as required Support operational management with the development and implementation of project specific OHS documentation to meet client and legislative requirements; assesses the effectiveness of current plans; recommends improvements where necessary; monitors the progress of project OHS activities following implementation Attend key project sites to review OHS performance and provide guidance to field-based teams on the correct application of Paladin's OHS programs and state/federal OHS legislative requirements Assist in identifying potential health and safety hazards in existing or future systems, equipment, facilities, or processes; review the causes or effects of such hazards and evaluate the probability and severity of accidents that may result; develops plans to eliminate the hazards. Provide lagging statistical information and identify leading key performance indicators in a meaningful format for functional leaders and management teams to support effective decision-making. Designs and conducts training sessions for management, supervisors, and workers on health and safety practices and regulations; supports the selection and design of OHS content for Paladin's learning management platform Maintain and update existing contractor compliance portal accounts Participate in investigating employee accidents, environmental incidents, and unsafe working conditions; studies possible causes and recommends remedial action where necessary; supports management to implement remedial actions Support local departments with workers compensation claims plus the development and implementation of 'return to work plans' Additional related duties may be assigned as this position evolves. Experience and Qualifications: Essential/Required Degree/Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Safety Engineering, or Industrial Hygiene, or the equivalent in education and directly related construction safety experience 2+ years of progressive experience in Occupational Health and Safety within the construction industry Experience developing construction project OHS documentation, performing risk assessments, and building exposure control plans for hazardous materials (lead, asbestos, silica etc) and confined spaces Knowledge and understanding of federal and state OH&S regulations, policies, and best practices across USA with the ability to interpret and explain regulations to others based on 5 years of experience Desirable/Preferred: Experience in Occup tional Health and Safety within multi-location construction and/or general contractor work sites Preference given to candidates possessing, or actively working toward, a professional Environmental Health & Safety designation (CSP, CESCO and CSHM Certification) Experience developing corporate OHS programs, policies, and procedures as demonstrated by 1 or more years of experience Experience creating and delivering training content to employees and management Experience administering contractor compliance online portals/sites Experience implementing ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001 standards Experience working with learning management systems and performing training gap analysis Competencies: Effective organizational, prioritization and time management skills Ability to engage, influence, and maintain good working relationships with management, employees, and clients Ability to read, write and speak effectively in English Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 applications Ability to work flexible hours as dictated by the requirements of the position, including some travel to other regions were Paladin operates Ability to implement OHS strategies across a large geographical area with minimal supervision Good grasp of business acumen and common language within industries supported Pay: $50k - $80k DOE Company Info: Paladin Technologies is a premier North American complex systems integrator for building technology solutions, including IP security, alarms & monitoring, audio visual, low-voltage infrastructure, and networking.
