About Nurse Manager - Endoscopy - Life Sciences Plaza

  The Nurse Manager for the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) - P4B will be responsible for the Main Campus and the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) operations.

  The ideal candidate will have a BSN, five years of nursing experience to include 1 years of Supervisory/Charge Nurse experience in Endoscopy, Procedural, or Operating Room (OR).

  Transformational Leadership and Structural Empowerment

  Transformational Leadership: The Nurse Manager is accountable and responsible to assist the Associate Director and the Clinical Nurse Leader in providing leadership to support the vision of the unit and to transform the unit's values, beliefs, and behaviors to meet the demands of the future.

  a. Participates in the implementation and monitoring of the unit budget to respond in a cost effective manner to changing patient, staff and inter-professional team requirements

  •Implements plans for compliance with established budget

  •Assists in preparation and delivery of unit staffing plans considering skill mix, staff and patient care requirements

  •Ensures daily staffing plans and patient care assignments are appropriate to provide quality and fiscally responsible patient care

  b. Supports an environment where staff practice with autonomy

  c. Supports change initiatives and ensures staff understand the importance, necessity, effect and process of change

  •Demonstrates and assists the Associate Director and Clinical Nurse Leader in relationship building among staff members that enhances loyalty and commitment to the organization

  •Gathers divergent viewpoints and reports information and ideas to the Associate Director

  d. Supports an environment for exceptional nursing practice. Serves as a role model by fostering peer relationships and participating in coaching and mentoring.

  e. Promotes an environment that values and respects the diversity of patients and staff.

  Structural Empowerment: The Nurse Manager, in collaboration with the Associate Director and the Clinical Nurse Leader, develops, directs, and empowers staff to problem solve in order to meet organizational and unit goals and achieve desired outcomes.

  a. Assists the Associate Director in human resource activities for all clinical and clerical staff including retention, supervision, evaluation and productivity

  •Recruitment: Coaches and mentors top talent through effective performance development and management

  •Retention: Provides career counseling to staff in identifying and fostering opportunities for personal and professional growth and development

  •Supervision: Supports the principles and practices of Just Culture that facilitate non-punitive accountability for performance

  •Evaluation: In collaboration with the Associate Director and the Clinical Nurse Leader, manages performance of staff through the use of annual evaluations, rewards, recognition, counseling and disciplinary action

  •Productivity: Coaches staff to accomplish organizational and departmental goals to achieve desired outcomes

  Exemplary Professional Practice The Nurse Manager promotes a comprehensive understanding of the role of nursing in the institution and on the unit, and its application to patients, families, communities, and the inter-professional team, and facilitates the application of new knowledge and evidence

  a. Promotes evidence-based, quality clinical nursing practice consistent with current nursing research, the Professional Practice Model, the Nurse Practice Act of the State of Texas, institutional, and national nursing practice standards

  b. Promotes a measurable, outcome focused, systematic approach to patient care delivery; assists in identifying, implementing, and evaluating opportunities for improvement

  c. Supports an environment that fosters effective communication and collaboration with other leaders, departments, disciplines, staff, patients, and families.

  d. Promotes an environment that cultivates an understanding and integration of ethical principles into clinical practice

  e. Demonstrates professional accountability by and ensures staff compliance with maintaining clinical practice knowledge, relevant technological proficiency, and knowledge of the healthcare environment

  f. Seeks opportunities to broaden knowledge relevant to the Nurse Manager role and healthcare though engagement in professional organizations and commitment to life-long learning

  New Knowledge, Innovations, and Improvement and Empirical Outcomes New Knowledge, innovations, and Improvements:

  The Nurse Manager assists the Associate Director by providing strong leadership, empowering professionals, and exemplary practice. The Nurse Manager has an ethical and professional responsibility to contribute to patient care, the organization, and the profession in terms of new knowledge, innovations, and improvements.

  a. New Knowledge

  •Assists in the application of new or existing evidence in setting unit patient care standards, incorporating new knowledge, innovation, and improvements in unit clinical practice, patient care delivery system, and work design

  •Provides support for unit vision that incorporates current/future healthcare economics, policy, regulatory and socio-political knowledge

  •Applies principles and practices that challenge the status quo, embrace change, and promote effective change

  b. Innovation

  •Assists and supports the application of patient care delivery system and the Professional Practice Model

  •Maintains proficiency in the application of technology in patient care delivery, and patient care processes

  c. Improvement

  •Incorporates evidenced-based practice, quality improvement, and patient safety initiatives to ensure the Institute of Medicine's six quality aims: safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and patient-centered care

  Empirical Outcomes: The Nurse Manager collaborates with the Associate Director and Clinical Nurse Leader in disseminating information to nursing staff about empirical outcomes, including the impact of quality improvement initiatives and institutional best practices on the patient population, nursing workforce and institution, as reflected in unit and institutional metrics.

  a. Engages in initiating, monitoring, managing, and improving unit performance and processes based on outcome data

  b. Maintains awareness of trends in unit data and implements action plans to improve and sustain outcomes by hardwiring practices

  c. Leads initiatives, projects and ensures follow-up with implemented initiatives to improve unit performance based on outcome data

  d. Mentors team members in participating and completing performance improvement projects

  e. Implements best practices with staff on the unit

  Education

  Required : Bachelor's degree in Nursing.

  Preferred: Master's of Science in Nursing

  Experience

  Required: Five years of professional nursing experience, to include one year of supervisory experience in direct patient care activities. Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate program may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience.

  Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.

  Licensure/Certification

  Required: Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN). Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification. Preferred: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification as required by patient care area.
