Check out our TNC Talent playlist on YouTube to hear stories from staff or visit Glassdoor. One of TNC's primary goals is to cultivate an inclusive work environment so that employees around the globe have a sense of belonging and feel that their unique contributions are valued. We know we'll only achieve our mission by hiring and engaging a diverse staff that reflects the communities in which we work. Recognizing that people bring talent and skills that have been developed outside the scope of a job, we take a holistic approach to recruitment that considers life experience in addition to the professional requirements listed in our postings. Please apply - we'd love to hear from you. To quote a popular saying at TNC, "you'll join for the mission, and you'll stay for the people."WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHERThe North American Indigenous Right Relations (IRR) Project Manager provides project management skills to uphold the principles of IRR and help achieve the program's Vision of healthy, thriving Indigenous communities and the Goal of Indigenous Peoples considering TNC a valued and trusted partner. You will lead activities under IRR Pillar III, which focuses on rematriation and aims to increase Indigenous ownership, use, and access to lands and waters-those owned by The Nature Conservancy (TNC) and as well as those outside of our portfolio. Collectively, we call this work LandForward. LandForward is a rapidly growing and evolving body of work-TNC's response to the Indigenous-led call to action for #landback-which currently includes a research initiative to identify metrics and targets for rematriating TNC lands as well as a partnership with TNC's Buffalo Restoration Program to increase Indigenous land ownership for buffalo habitat. Future scope may include technical assistance and other initiatives to support Indigenous-led conservation. As the Project Manager, you will be responsible for coordination, oversight, and execution of necessary activities to advance LandForward. You will help manage and implement LandForward using existing project management tools processes (Highly Effective Teams), while developing key topic expertise around land rematriation in the TNC context. You will also ensure alignment of activities within Pillar III and between their work and other IRR priorities, working closely with the IRR Director and IRR Program Manager on initiatives and projects that span multiple teams and programs within the North America Region. The IRR Project Manager uses project management tools and strategies to develop work plans, set realistic deadlines, establish team structures, facilitate meetings, manage timelines, clarify roles and action items, and ensure accountability. You will have the opportunity to develop Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning processes to ensure goals are met, and exercise independent judgment to identify, communicate, and solve problems related to the projects within your assigned portfolio. You will work across matrixed internal teams-notably, colleagues based in the North American Regional Office and staff located in state and country programs-to foster and maintain collaboration and communication and to help drive the implementation of priority initiatives and projects in North America. The Project Manager will have the ability to sensitively advise staff and will demonstrate sensitivity in handling confidential information. You may engage in issue resolution and conflict management and work to collaboratively solve complex problems. The Project Manager's work is diversified and may not always fall under established projects, processes, or systems.WE'RE LOOKING FOR YOUOur planet faces the interconnected crises of rapid climate change and biodiversity loss. We have years, not decades, to address these threats. In response, TNC has narrowed our organizational focus and committed to our 2030 goals - our biggest, most ambitious plans - for people and nature. Our 2030 goals require an organizational evolution in which increased collaboration, coordination, and collective effort will be essential. This evolution will require new skills, engaged staff, diverse voices, and clear and transparent ways of working together. We believe that, if achieved, our 2030 goals will make a meaningful difference in protecting biodiversity and reducing the threat of climate change through sound policy and nature-based solutions. The North America Indigenous Right Relations (IRR) Program focuses on the "how" we work and ensures TNC equitably and effectively partners with Indigenous Peoples in North America, upholds the Conservancy's organizational values, and advances the conservation goals of both TNC and Indigenous Peoples. The IRR Program aims to support North America TNC staff, business units, divisions, and departments by taking a systems change approach to this work that aims to set a regional tone aligned with the One Conservancy mindset and develop internal processes that guide the Conservancy towards being in right relations and true partnership with Indigenous Peoples in a manner that upholds Indigenous voice, choice, and action. We are looking for a skilled project manager who is comfortable working at a regional level on large and complex initiatives, processes, and projects within a matrixed organization. The ideal candidate has experience leading a diverse, multi-disciplinary team and has exceptional communication and collaboration skills. This person will serve as a #landback subject matter expert on our core IRR team and will liaise with other Conservancy staff to help accelerate the implementation of LandForward and associated projects. They may advise TNC communications, marketing, and philanthropy staff on issues related to LandForward. The location for the Project Manager position is flexible in countries/provinces/states within TNC's North America Region where the Conservancy is a registered non-governmental organization.
