Posting Summary | The Department of Library and Information Science in Rutgers University's School of Communication and Information invites applications for a calendar year (twelve-month), three-year, renewable non-tenure track full-time faculty instructor and course coordinator who has specialized knowledge of the social impact of data science, drawing upon critical, cultural, information science, data literacy, and/or sociological perspectives. Responsibilities of this position include teaching and service contributions in accordance with university policy. We seek an experienced, professional, and innovative full-time non-tenure track faculty instructor to teach multiple sections of a new interdisciplinary course entitled Data in Context. This course is part of the Data Science program curriculum (), offered jointly between the School of Communication and Information and the School of Arts and Sciences. In addition to teaching multiple sections of the course, the person in this position will have administrative responsibilities including hiring, training, and supervising of lecturers who will be employed part-time, to teach additional sections of the course. The faculty member will coordinate with the School of Arts and Sciences which administers the Data Science program and major, as well as Student Services at the School of Communication and Information as needed, to manage and monitor enrollment and oversee and evaluate course quality and delivery. Pending need and interest, the instructor may be also asked to teach other undergraduate courses in the department's ITI program. The appointment begins on July 1st, 2024. The ITI and Data Sciences programs are offered on the Rutgers-New Brunswick campus in central New Jersey, conveniently located with easy access to transit options through downtown New Brunswick. Job Responsibilities This position will be responsible for: - Teaching multiple sections of the Data in Context course to undergraduate students from diverse majors including (but not limited to) Data Science, IT and Informatics, Computer Science, Economics, and Statistics. - Coordinating the scheduling and course logistics for the Data in Context course - Working closely with a broad group of stakeholders, including the Program Director of the Information Technology and Informatics program, faculty in the Library and Information Science department, Student Services administrators in the School of Communication and Information, and the Data Science Program directors and Curriculum Committee in the School of Arts and Sciences - Recruiting, hiring, mentoring, and conducting annual teaching evaluations for lecturers - Working with Student Services staff on matters such as student advising, enrollment management, grade appeals. - The workload of non-tenure track teaching faculty members is teaching four courses per semester plus service, or the equivalent in combinations of teaching and service, with opportunities for advancement and multi-year contracts. |
