About Naval Architect IV

  Description

  DLBA Naval Architects, a division of Division of Gibbs & Cox Maritime Solutions Gibbs & Cox, a wholly owned subsidiary of Leidos, is seeking a candidate with a well-rounded balance of practical naval architecture experience and expert-level computational fluid dynamics (CFD) skills. As a member of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide naval architecture support in the development of steel, aluminum, and composite (a) recreational vessels, (b) commercial ship designs, and (c) U.S. Government craft from 20' to 250' feet in length. The ideal candidate is an experienced Naval Architect with extensive design experience and in-depth knowledge of the design process.

  Primary Responsibilities

  Essential responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  Serve as a technical leader in a multi-disciplinary engineering design team.Mentor staff in the development of accurate and detailed engineering calculations using first principles hand calculations and devising approaches to challenges encountered.Mentor staff in the design of boats and craft and providing solutions by applying existing design skills, techniques, and company procedures.Evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria for design and modification of boats and craft.Develop and implement new approaches to design and engineering problems when existing standards and procedures are deemed insufficient for the task at hand, including validation of the approach(es).Execute engineering tasking as assigned by project managers and other leadership personnel accurately and efficiently.Interface with existing and potential clients regularly to convey technical information clearly and accurately.Write proposals and develop technical content for commercial and government opportunities.

  Basic Qualifications:

  U.S. Citizenship is required and candidates must be able to obtain a security clearanceB.S. Degree or higher in Naval Architecture8+ Years of related experience with small craft designRequires a broad knowledge of naval architecture and an in-depth knowledge of principles, practices and related technologies.Knowledge and experience with developing calculations and drawings for Class and Flag review and approval.Strong analytical experience and problem solving skillsProficiency in using industry-standard CAD software, including AutoCAD and RhinoExpert-level CFD skills within the domain of naval architectural design.Experience with Validation & Verification of analytical tools against experimental data and the ability to identify and communicate the bounds of applicability of the tools for the use case tested.Experience with GHS hydrostatics and stability softwareStrong knowledge of seakeeping principals and analysisExcellent MS Office skills, including Word, PowerPoint, and ExcelDemonstrated interpersonal skills as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary teamStrong time management and organization skills as an independent contributor and small team leader.Able to present and communicate highly technical work in your domain to an audience of different technical backgrounds simply and effectively.

  Desired Qualifications:

  M.Sc. Degree or Ph.D Degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related fieldProfessional Engineer's LicenseProject Management Professional certificationShipyard ExperienceProgramming experience in PythonExperience developing visualizations outside of standard visualizations generated by analysis softwareExperience running seakeeping analysis with Large Amplitude Motions Program (LAMP)Strong knowledge of specifications and regulatory requirements (BS/RINA/LR/ISO/USCG/ABYC)Experience with experimental hydrodynamic testing in towing tanks and/or wave basins

  Pay Range:

  Pay Range $101,400.00 - $183,300.00

  The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
