Description: The Motor Vehicle Mechanic repairs, rebuilds, or overhauls major assemblies of internal combustion automobiles, buses, trucks or tractors. Work involves most of the following: Diagnosing the source of trouble and determining the extent of repairs required; replacing worn or broken parts such as piston rings, bearings, or other engine parts; grinding and adjusting valves; rebuilding carburetors; overhauling transmissions; and repairing fuel injection, lighting, and ignition systems. In general, the work of the Motor Vehicle Mechanic requires rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent.
Additionally performs routine and specialized maintenance/repair support, Familiar with the following TACOM supported Equipment: High-Mobility Multi-Purpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV), Palletized Load system (PLS), Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV), All Terrain Vehicles (ATV), Generators, ATV's, Forklifts, and Bobcats.
Responsibilities include:
• Responsible for the direction and welfare of 1 or more personnel, A FOSOV mechanic supervisor will oversee the maintenance of vehicles, personnel, and shop operations.
• Will be responsible to plan and enforce safety; requisition supplies, parts, and necessary materials, and is the primary point of contact with the unit on all matters related to the maintenance and repair of the FOSOV fleet.
• A FOSOV mechanic understands complex mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, ventilation and/or instrumentation systems, and uses analytical and investigative methods and techniques to ensure systems meet required specifications.
• This FOSOV mechanics will establish methods to meet work schedules and co-ordinate work activities with customer, and supervise, coordinate and schedule the activities of workers who repair and maintain the FOSOV Fleet; resolve work problems and recommend work measures to improve productivity; prepare production and other reports.
• Responsible for all QA/QC inspections of all equipment repaired at his responsible site prior to the equipment being returned to the customer.
Basic Qualifications:
Requires practical experience in: Power & Drive Train, Automotive Air-conditioning and cooling, Diesel & Gasoline engines, and Automotive Electrical Systems.
5+ years related work experience.
Knowledge of a variety of domestic and foreign commercial and passenger vehicles.
Ability to work independently and diagnose, Repair and service all equipment listed by following technical manuals.
Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD Secret Security Clearance, which requires U.S. Citizenship.
Desired Skills:
Experience working on Family of Special Operation Vehicles (FOSOV) equipment.
ASE Certification (Automotive Service Excellence).
Security Clearance Statement: This position requires a government security clearance, you must be a US Citizen for consideration.
