Boeing Commercial Airplanes is seeking a Metal Surface Processor to join our team in Auburn and Puyallup , WA.
Operators in this position operate and monitor numerous types of tanklines to chemically clean, etch and/or coat parts and material prior to application of final finish or installed into an assembly. Employment in this position also requires standing, bending and twisting at the waist, lifting and carrying less than 10 pounds, walking, handling, pushing/pulling less than 10 pounds, reaching, rotation of head/neck, contact with metals, exposure to noise and atmospheric conditions, and the use of personal safety gear for face/eye, hand/arm, ears and feet. Obtain daily work assignment from tie-in book or standard shop procedure.
Position Responsibilities:
Monitor workload in the area and coordinate the work mix and flow, to obtain best utilization of shop facilities.
Separate parts for cleaning/surface preparation per Work Order (W/O) (e.g., alkaline, emulsion, decontaminate, deoxidize, descale/denut, etch, passivate).
Determine racking procedures for parts with complex contours.
Check racks and clips for damage, remove and notify appropriate personnel, as required.
Apply masking tape and/or other protective coatings to parts or material in preparation for painting or plating operations.
Locate masking areas per drawing or tool. Check racked parts to verify correct chemical process and part numbers per W/O.
Ensure good contact to prevent burning of parts. Operate material handling systems, including various types of cranes.
Route parts and material to correct process line, per W/O.
Operate tankline and monitor process for correct dip times, tank levels and temperatures, check racks for part fall off.
Notify Batteryman when temperature, tank level and chemicals need adjusting.
Route completed parts to next work station, verify complete coverage and sell job to (QA) Quality Assurance.
Match W/O with correct parts, unrack, wrap and load parts into material handling equipment, as required.
Handle and dispose of hazardous material in an approved manner (e.g., alodine, solvents).
Leave oral or written tie-in for following shift. Contact supervisor or co-worker with questions, when assistance is needed or when any problems arise.
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.
The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Basic computer skills
Fluent in Verbal and Written English
Experience using basic math (e.g. addition, subtraction, multiplication and division)
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
High school graduate or GED preferred.Typical Education:
High school graduate or GED preferred.
Relocation:
This position is located in a location that does not offer relocation. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.
Shift:
This position is for 2nd shift.

This is an hourly position governed by the IAM Collective Bargaining agreement.
