Job Summary
Mental Health Peer Educators will act as an additional resource at CAPS to help CLC students seeking support for non-crisis personal concerns. Mental Health Peer Educators will serve in a non-clinical capacity, meaning they are not providing therapy services. Mental Health Peer Educators will be thoroughly trained in a variety of interpersonal skills (e.g., active listening and communication) so they can offer emotional support and referrals to resources within appropriate boundaries. Aside from peer-to-peer support, Mental Health Peer Educators will act as advocates on campus for mental health and CAPS , such as participating in and designing wellness events (e.g., self-care activities, tabling, presentations). Mental Health Peer Educators will also have opportunities to work in collaboration with Student Activities Inclusion ( SAI ).
Responsibilities include, but are not limited, the following:
1) Assist CLC students with non-crisis emotional support, questions about mental health, and/or CLC resources during walk-in and scheduled appointments
2) Serve as an advocate for mental health on campus
3) Participate in and help develop CAPS wellness events, such as presentations, tabling, and self-care activities
4) Assist with compiling and creating mental health and other support resources
5) Collaborate with fellow Mental Health Peer Educators, CAPS team, and SAI team on projects and wellness initiatives
6) Attend mandatory team meetings, trainings, and individual meetings with Peer Support Program coordinators
Required Qualification(s)
1) Must be a CLC student enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credits during the Fall 2024 semester
2) Must have completed at least one semester at CLC and have a minimum 2.5 GPA
3) Have a genuine desire to help others and engage in conversations about mental health while maintaining appropriate boundaries and respecting confidentiality
4) Demonstrate willingness to play a key role in student support
5) Be able to work with a diverse population of students who have varied needs for assistance
6) Be able to work independently and as a part of a team
7) Demonstrate initiative, dependability and reliability
8) Dedicated hard worker with proficiency in basic computer skills (specifically Microsoft Word, Excel, Forms and Teams)

Work Schedule
Position runs through the end of the 2025 academic year.
Must be available for mandatory team meetings and trainings on Wednesdays (2:00-4:00pm) and Thursdays (1:00-3:00pm) in Fall 2024 semester. Flexible scheduling for remaining weekly work hours (Monday – Friday between 8:30a – 5:00p).
Must be available to work during Winter 2025 Intersession (January 2-17, 2025), including mandatory training sessions.
Flexible scheduling for Spring 2025 (Monday – Friday between 8:30a – 5:00p), with mandatory weekly team meetings (dates and times TBD ).
