Job Description:
Perform medical laboratory tests and procedures and operate laboratory instruments following established protocol and quality control checks. Recognize factors affecting measurement, take appropriate action according to predetermined protocols, and recognize results that are abnormal or deviate from those expected. Communicate test results, normal ranges, and specimen requirements. Report and document STAT, CRITICAL, or to-be-called results within the established time frame protocols and answer inquiries about test results, methods, specificity and sensitivity, and questions about specific factors that can influence test results. Use a computer to manage data through input, storage, and retrieval. Communicate information regarding inventory of reagents and supplies to appropriate personnel. Be responsible for clinical correlation and quality assurance, confirming abnormal results according to established protocol. Verify quality control procedures and recognize out-of-control results and troubleshoot quality control problems that are identified. Calibrate test results according to standard procedure, analyze quality control data, make judgments concerning the results, and take appropriate actions to maintain accuracy and precision. Recognize equipment malfunctions, troubleshoot problems, and document corrective action. Be responsible for method evaluation and research and development, comparing alternate techniques and procedures with current in-house methods for accuracy and precision in cooperation with the department’s technical specialist. Implement new techniques and procedures, write and revise technical procedures, and establish and monitor quality control programs.
Job Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a closely related field.
Two (2) years of experience working in a clinical laboratory.
Other experience and/or skills must include:
Independent troubleshooting of instrumentation.
Quality control analysis.
Problem solving and resolution of discrepant test results.
Maintaining aseptic technique for microbiology culturing.
Calculate and pipette accurate dilution ratios.
Must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship .
