The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) is an independent nonprofit organization authorized by Congress in 2010. Its mission is to fund research that will provide patients, their caregivers and clinicians with the evidence-based information needed to make better-informed healthcare decisions. Position Summary
Under the direction of the Sr. Manager, Library Strategies and Services (LSS), the Medical Librarian will collaboratively develop, coordinate, provide, and maintain library strategies and services across PCORI's departments, divisions, and units. Library strategies services include reference and research consultation, expert literature searching approaches and support, collection development, resource management and instruction.
PCORI's Library Strategies and Services functionally resides within the Award Development and Implementation (ADI) Unit of the Program Operations Division under the Patient-Centered Research Programs Department. The Program Operations Division provides research funding implementation leadership, coordination, management, and support across all PCORI funding opportunities. These activities include evidence-based funding opportunity development; outreach and application solicitation; letter of intent and application receipt and review; funding approval; contract negotiation, execution, and management; peer review of research results; funding implementation policy and process development and management; and tracking, evaluation, and communication of PCORI-funded publications. Library Strategies and Services is an integral component in assuring PCORI meets its mission, and the Medical Librarian role is an integral component.
The Medical Librarian position is remote work eligible. Periodic in-person visits to PCORI's DC-based office are expected. PCORI seeks a highly qualified candidate interested in working in a fast-paced, high-impact, hybrid work environment. No physical Library space is established nor needed.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provides literature support for high-priority activities including PCORI's Topic Theme Advancement efforts, evaluation and analysis projects, and strategic initiatives.Conducts regular needs assessments, maintains usage statistics, and makes recommendations on changes to services and the collection.Participates in the procurement of library resources and maintains the PCORI Library LibGuide.Provides in-person and virtual instruction on using library resources.Develops targeted literature searches and maintains bibliographies to support programmatic needs.Contributes to the collection, coding, maintenance, and sharing of publication information stemming from PCORI-funded projects.Supports efforts to assess the dissemination, uptake, and impact of PCORI-funded research findings.
In collaboration with the Senior Manager and ADI Director, engages in the strategic planning and implementation of library service process improvements.Develops library services policies and procedures in collaboration with leadership.
Actively promotes library services, resources, and tools across the organization.

Knowledge of professional library principles, best practices, and services.Familiarity with information resources relevant to health sciences.Expertise in developing and executing advanced search strategies in a variety of biomedical databases, such as PubMed; Web of Science; OVID MEDLINE; EMBASE; and PsycINFO.Competent searching grey literature.Adept at providing individual and group research consultation and instruction both virtually and in-person on a variety of library related topics.Knowledge of research impact metrics, tools, and analyses.Proficiency in the use of citation management software, preferably EndNote.Basic understanding of intellectual property and copyright.Actively stays abreast of best practices and emerging trends in library science, medical librarianship, information literacy, health information resources, and the role of technologies in libraries.Ability to work independently and collaboratively.Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively and be adept at organizing time efficiently.Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.Experience providing highly responsive public service.Experience using the full Microsoft Office 365 office suite of applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint).

American Library Association accredited Master's degree in library/Information Science or equivalent combination of advanced degree and relevant experience.Demonstrated professional experience working in a health sciences library or relevant healthcare setting (minimum 3 - 5 years). Early to mid-career medical librarians are strongly encouraged to apply. Experience with the selection, acquisition, and maintenance of information resources relevant to health sciences.
