SUMMARY:
Performs laboratory procedures to obtain results for physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases using established protocols that require the broad exercise of independent judgment and responsibility with minimal technical supervision. Works independently and communicates effectively with other healthcare professionals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Accurately performs any high complexity, moderate complexity or waived laboratory testing in the assigned testing division which may require the broad exercise of independent judgment to include the use of advanced clinical laboratory instrumentation and equipment according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
Recognizes and corrects instrument malfunctions within the scope of the operators manual and records troubleshooting activities.
Confirms, verifies and reports test results independently. Monitors results for reasonableness and critical values.
Correlates and interprets data generated from testing.
Assists physicians in the interpretation of test results within the scope of the profession.
Conducts established quality control and performance improvement activities.
Provides clinical orientation and/or training of new employees/students.
Prepares and/or collects specimens (blood, urine, feces or other body fluids) for analysis.
If qualified, (Technologist) performs the duties of CLIA general supervisor when the technical manager is not on site.
Participates in Continuous System Improvement (CSI) and continuing education programs.

Must meet CLIA 88 personnel requirements for high complexity testing
