Job Description Primary Function of Position:
We are seeking a Mechatronics intern who is hands-on, technically strong, and has a track record of working on multidisciplinary teams on product/concept development. The successful candidate will participate in working through concept and development and play an active hands-on role in solving challenging technical problems.
In this role, you will utilize creativity and sound engineering judgment to design medical capital equipment components for volume manufacturing processes. You will be expected to use your engineering and analytical skills to conceptualize, develop, and verify new electrical, software, mechanical, and optomechanical designs. You will be responsible for key system components and will interface with suppliers and manufacturing NPI teams to build high-quality hardware prototypes and productize new designs. You should be capable of making sound decisions when faced with time constraints and ambiguous or incomplete information typical of research and development.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Development of mechanical/electrical hardware and software from concept.Design, build, and measure prototype solutions that demonstrate proof-of-concept and early technical feasibility.Design and fabricate electrooptic-mechanical devices including sensors and microcontrollers.Characterize, automate, and create fixtures toInvestigate new technologies for early product development.Integrate mechanical, electrical, and software systems for new product development.Work across multiple disciplines (mechanical, electrical, software).Prepare and maintain detailed documentation (test plan protocols, reports, specifications).Perform statistical data analysis and interpretation.Develop algorithms to extract information from physiological signals and data.Duties will also include general engineering support in R&D.Analyze and investigate research and development engineering tasks and prepares design specifications, analysis, and recommendations.Communicate with professionals in the field at all levels and transition information into product improvement. Qualifications University Hiring Program Eligibility Requirements:
University Enrollment: Must be currently enrolled in and returning to an accredited degree-seeking academic program in the Fall.Internship Work Period: Must be available to work full-time (approximately 40 hours per week) during a 10-12 week period starting May or June. Specific start dates are shared during the recruiting process. Skills, Experience, Education, & Training:
Current enrollment in a Mechatronics or Mechanical with a minor/background in Software degree-seeking program at the Master’s level. Bachelor’s, or Doctorate level students would also be considered based on specific relevant experience. Technical knowledge and background experience in Mechatronics.Experience in integrating mechanical designs with electrical systems. Experience in working with 3D CAD and analysis softwareExperience in board bring-up and debugging.Experience in understanding schematic design and PCB layout.Experience in Python and C/C++ programming.Familiarity with interconnect protocols (SPI, I2C, UART, GPIO) and interfacing peripherals.Algorithm and firmware development experience is a strong plus. We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay (paid at an hourly rate), benefits, and a housing allowance. It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of range for the role, as actual pay will be determined based on several factors, including relevant skills and experience for this internship, degree-seeking academic program (PhD, Master’s, Bachelor’s, etc), year in school, and location. The hourly rate is prorated against the intern program salaries listed and total program compensation will be based on internship duration.
