Position Summary
Performs various engineering assignments with a focus on complete mechanical systems.
Duties
Design mechanical parts and processes for use in new product development and the repair of surgical devices.
Measure and document mechanical parts considering complete mechanical systems.
Conduct research that tests and analyzes the fit, form, and function of new components and the feasibility, design, operation and performance of existing equipment, components, systems and processes.
Create solid models and engineering drawings with a focus on manufacturability.
Develop, source and evaluate prototype designs.
Conduct failure analysis and identify critical components.
Specify system components that conform to engineering design and performance specifications.
Design tooling, jigs and fixtures.
Perform first article and prototype inspections.
Conduct technical presentations to medical professionals and IMS employees.
Coordinate with purchasing and the production floor to find suppliers and vendors.
Create part numbers for components and assemblies for purchasing, inventory control, and factory use.
Operate effectively in a team setting.

Education Degree
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical EngineeringRequired Experience
Must have up to 3-5 years of experience with the following in a regulated industry (medical preferred):
Materials engineering, metallography, and working with polymers, and plastics. Must have the ability to build prototypes as well as reverse engineer mechanical parts.
Machining processes and techniques, ability to solder and handle small delicate parts is essential.
Parametric modeling.
Schematic capture, PCB layout and CIS/DE-HDL, library tools.
Understanding of mechanical systems and interaction with overall electrical sub-systems
Working with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
Production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
Translating voice of customer input into specific design requirements
Design control methods, including verification/validation testing techniques.
Project management.
Preferred Experience
Skills
Computer Skills - Must be proficient with all Microsoft Office applications; previous experience with Oracle preferred.
Parametric modeling (SolidWorks strongly preferred).
Mechanical design experience (medical device industry strongly preferred).
Aptitude for hands-on tasks and broad understanding of machining techniques.
Ability to prepare and present complex engineering designs to other engineering disciplines, projects teams, customers, and senior management.
